On February 21, Quang Ninh province held a ceremony to welcome teams participating in the Clipper race 2023 - 2024 to Ha Long.
Quang Ninh Provincial Leaders Welcome Ha Long Bay Viet Nam Sailing Team
Representatives of the Quang Ninh Department of Tourism informed the yacht racing teams participating in the Clipper race about the land and people of this locality. Quang Ninh is known as a "miniature Vietnam" with beautiful nature, unique culture, friendly people and Ha Long Bay, a World Natural Heritage.
Leaders of the Quang Ninh Department of Tourism also hope that members of the 11 boat racing teams enjoy meaningful first days of the new year, have wonderful experiences in Ha Long and spread the beauty of Ha Long to their homeland and the land they set foot on.

It is expected that on March 2, the boats will leave Ha Long Bay and continue their journey to Jiuzhou Port (Zhuhai City, Guangdong Province, China). Before arriving at Ha Long Bay, the racing boats will depart from Coral Sea Marina Resort (Airlie Beach, Whitsunday Region, Queensland State, Australia).
To promote the destination image and attract investors to Quang Ninh, on this occasion, the locality organized a number of activities such as: a program to introduce local products (OCOP) and promote Quang Ninh tourism in the Ha Long International Passenger Port area; a tour and survey program for Clipper race crew; a conference to promote, advertise and attract investment in Quang Ninh tourism associated with the award ceremony of the race; a number of art performances, sightseeing and tourism programs for crew members, organizers, etc.
The captain leading the Ha Long Bay Vietnam team is Mr. Josh Stickland, 37 years old, British.
The Clipper race is a round-the-world yacht race. In the 2023-2024 season, the Clipper race will feature 11 yachts, divided into 8 legs (including 16 individual races and 6 ocean crossings).
Nearly 400 sailors participating in the competition teams are people who love the sport of sailing, including many scientists, businessmen, investors, doctors, journalists, social media celebrities...
In addition, there were hundreds of relatives of the sailors and reporters from various countries coming to the race destinations.
In the 7th race, 5th stage, the Ha Long Bay Viet Nam racing team finished 5th and is currently 6th in the overall rankings.
Last season, although it was the first time participating, the Ha Long Bay Viet Nam sailboat from Quang Ninh excelled over many other racing teams, winning third place overall.
Ha Long Bay Vietnam was established under a cooperation agreement between the People's Committee of Quang Ninh province and Clipper Ventures Company - the organizer of the boat race.
The Ha Long Bay Viet Nam team has about 60 members of different nationalities, aged from 27 to 73, but no Vietnamese. The members will take turns participating in each race until the end. The captain of the team is Mr. Josh Stickland (37 years old), British, who started sailing at the age of 10.

The arrival of 11 boat racing teams to Ha Long is also an opportunity to promote the image of Quang Ninh and Vietnam tourism to international friends.
