Nearly 30 people injured by firecrackers during Tet in Dak Lak

(NLDO) – During the Lunar New Year, in Dak Lak province, there were 27 cases of injuries caused by firecrackers, many people lost fingers.

On February 5, news from the Dak Lak Provincial Department of Health said that on the occasion of the Lunar New Year 2025, medical facilities in the province received 27 cases of injuries caused by firecrackers and 4 cases of injuries caused by homemade weapons and explosives.

A patient was seriously injured by a firecracker explosion.

Of which, from January 24 to February 2 (ie December 25 to the 5th day of Tet), the Orthopedic Trauma Department - Tay Nguyen General Hospital received 13 cases of hospitalization due to firecrackers. Currently, this department still has 7 cases being treated. Most of the patients are school-age.

NHV (residing in Ya To Mot commune, Ea Sup district, Dak Lak province) said that during Tet, he went to his friend's house to play and saw a firecracker that had gone off so he picked it up. Unexpectedly, the firecracker exploded as soon as he held it in his hand, causing both of V's hands to be crushed, his fingers to be amputated, and facial injuries.

"My family is heartbroken, not knowing what the future holds for our child. I hope parents will pay more attention to their children so that unfortunate events like this don't happen," Ms. NTC (V.'s mother) said sadly.

Mr. HTT (residing in Buon Ma Thuot City, Dak Lak Province) was hospitalized on New Year's Eve after a homemade firecracker explosion. According to Mr. T., on his way out, he accidentally saw a firecracker that someone had left behind, so he picked it up and tried to light it. After lighting it, before he could throw it away, it exploded, injuring both of Mr. T.'s hands and requiring the amputation of many joints of all five left fingers. "I work as a barber, now that I'm like this, I don't know what to do" - Mr. T. regretted.

A seriously injured patient was patient TVL (residing in Cu Jut district, Dak Nong province) who had to have the lower third of his right forearm amputated, his left arm was also severely injured due to firecrackers.

Previously, Mr. TVL ordered 5 homemade firecrackers on Facebook for 56,000 VND each. When he lit the last firecracker, it exploded right in his hand, seriously injuring him.
