EVN launches construction of 500kV transmission line to import electricity from Laos

On September 30, in Ta Bhing commune (Nam Giang district, Quang Nam), Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) launched the construction of the 500 kV Monsoon - Thanh My transmission line project (section in Vietnam).

EVN General Director Tran Dinh Nhan gave a speech assigning tasks to construction units.

The 500 kV Monsoon - Thanh My transmission line project was approved by the Prime Minister in principle for importing electricity and the connection plan to the Monsoon Wind Power Plant (Laos) in Official Dispatch No. 938/TTg-CN dated July 21, 2020 and Decision No. 500/QD-TTg dated May 15 of the Prime Minister on approving the National Power Development Plan for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050 (referred to as Power Plan VIII).

The 500 kV Monsoon - Thanh My transmission line project (section in Vietnam) is built in Nam Giang district with a length of about 44.71 km, a 2-circuit line, connecting from the Monsoon Wind Power Plant cluster to the 500 kV Thanh My transformer station. The Prime Minister assigned EVN as the investor of the project. Power Project Management Board 2 is the unit assigned by EVN to represent the investor in managing the project.

According to EVN, the total investment of the project is more than 1,100 billion VND with the project construction investment capital arranged from credit loans from Agribank and counterpart capital from EVN.

When the 500 kV Monsoon - Thanh My transmission line is completed and put into operation, it will be able to transmit a maximum capacity of up to about 2,500 MW, contributing to improving the operational capacity of the national power system through importing electricity from Laos.

Sharing at the ceremony, Mr. Tran Dinh Nhan, General Director of EVN, requested the Power Project Management Board 2, consulting and supervising units, contractors participating in the project construction, officers and workers to unite and carry out the creative labor emulation movement well to successfully complete the progress and quality goals; ensure the environment and labor safety to put the project into operation, increase electricity supply to serve the country's socio-economic development.

At the launching ceremony, EVN, Vietnam Electricity Trade Union and Power Project Management Board 2 presented gifts to support social security for people in La Dee, Cha Val, Ta Po, Ta Bhing communes (Nam Giang district).

EVN informed that according to the power purchase contract, when put into operation, the 500 kV Monsoon - Thanh My line will receive imported electricity from wind power sources from Laos with a capacity of 600 MW and an expected average annual electricity output of about 1.7 billion kWh.

The project has realized the bilateral commitment on cooperation between the Governments of Vietnam and Laos in the field of energy system development.
