On March 27, Vietnam Electricity Group (EVN) had a working session with the People's Committee of Dong Nai province on electricity saving during the dry season, ensuring electricity supply in 2024 and removing obstacles for the Nhon Trach 3 and 4 thermal power projects.
Dong Nai Electricity staff are repairing and maintaining the power grid.
Reporting at the meeting, Mr. Truong Dinh Quoc, Director of Dong Nai Electricity Company, said that in the first 3 months of 2024, the transmission and distribution grid system in the province ensured safe and stable power supply to serve local socio-economic development.
In addition, the company also actively implements electricity saving activities, signing electricity saving commitments with 35,256 customers, equivalent to 327 million kWh of committed saving output in 2024.
Regarding investment, in 2024, Dong Nai Electricity plans to deploy 126 power projects with a total value of more than VND 915 billion, including 34 110kV grid projects and 92 medium and low voltage projects.
Mr. Cao Quang Quynh, member of the EVN Board of Members, said that the electricity growth in the South in general and Dong Nai in particular is higher than the national average, far exceeding EVN's forecast. According to Mr. Quynh, with the current growth rate, in the coming time, the power source may not be able to meet the demand. "The Group committed to supplying electricity in 2024, but 2025 is very difficult. Currently, the whole country only has Nhon Trach 3, 4 thermal power projects (capacity of 1,500 MW, total investment of 1.4 billion USD) under construction and can generate electricity in 2025, there are no other sources," said Mr. Quynh.
However, the Nhon Trach 3 and 4 thermal power projects are facing difficulties in terms of land and infrastructure. Therefore, EVN recommends that the People's Committee of Dong Nai province pay attention to supporting the settlement of difficulties in this key project as well as other power projects and transformer stations of the electricity sector in the area.
According to Mr. Quynh, to ensure electrical safety during this year's dry season, practicing electricity saving is still the top priority. EVN hopes that Dong Nai will implement more practical and effective electricity saving solutions.
