Organizations and businesses have adopted a variety of innovative solutions, from using drones to mobile apps, to deliver relief supplies to hard-to-reach places and connect those in need with available resources.
Relief supplies
One of the outstanding solutions is the use of drones to deliver relief supplies. Do Quoc Viet, a member of Vietflycam Company, shared about a special relief case in Tuyen Quang city.
His team received information about a woman who had just given birth and was trapped in the whirlpool. Due to high floodwater conditions, land rescue boats could not immediately reach her.
The Vietflycam team quickly deployed flycams to determine the exact location of the family in distress.
They then used drones to transport essential items such as batteries, drinking water, milk and food... to the family, helping them to survive while waiting for rescuers to arrive.
Since receiving information about the severe flooding situation, Vietflycam has mobilized all of the company's resources, including vehicles, drones and relief goods, to support affected provinces such as Thai Nguyen and Yen Bai.
The company owns a variety of drones with diverse capabilities, from the M600 Pro that can carry a payload of 7kg, the T50 that can carry 50kg, to the M350 specialized for terrain surveying and the Mavic equipped with a thermal camera for searching for people.
After more than a day of operation, the team has made more than 300 flights per day. They not only transport relief goods but also carry out search and rescue missions, survey flooded and landslide-prone areas, and determine the exact location of those in need of help to notify the authorities.
The use of drones in relief work has proven to be highly effective.
During the day, they help find people faster, while at night, as long as people have a means of attracting attention such as lights or phones, drones can still approach and drop relief supplies even in completely isolated areas that traditional rescue vehicles cannot reach.
Call for help, report location via app
Along with the use of flying technology, mobile applications also play an important role in connecting people with relief resources.
Zalo application has deployed the Zalo SOS feature since September 7, to support people in provinces affected by super typhoon Yagi.
This feature allows users to share their current status or request emergency help. With "Share Status," people can post a status of "I'm safe" or "I'm in trouble" along with specific information about their situation.
In addition, the "Request support" feature allows users to perform two operations: "Connect for help" and "Emergency contact" directly on the "Vietnam Disaster Prevention" Mini App.
This is an application released by the Standing Office of the National Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Control in collaboration with the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) on the Zalo platform.
The "Rescue Connection" feature helps people call for help in emergency situations, while "Emergency Contact" provides a list of hotlines in areas affected by storms and floods.
According to Zalo statistics, as of September 10, 72,000 people used the rescue connection feature and 36,400 people contacted for emergency assistance.
In addition, 586,000 people have updated their safety status through the Zalo SOS feature. Currently, this feature has been expanded to people in 23 northern provinces and cities, including Hanoi and neighboring provinces.
