Bringing Thanh Hoa rice to "export"

Representatives of Lam Son Sugarcane Joint Stock Company and its partner Kematsu Company (Japan) inspected rice quality in Thieu Hoa town.

As one of the pioneers in building a chain from rice production to the people, Lam Son Sugarcane Joint Stock Company has actively cooperated with foreign enterprises to bring new high-quality rice varieties into testing and replication. Thereby, the company has introduced Japanese Japonica J02 rice variety into large-scale production with 500 hectares on land in Thieu Hoa district. The rice area is grown according to modern agricultural technology, VietGAP standards. The rice grains are round, when cooked, the rice grains are ivory white, fragrant, rich in flavor, and high in nutrients. To improve quality, the company has applied advanced production standards and has been recognized as a 4-star OCOP product at the provincial level.

In November 2024, Lam Son Sugarcane Joint Stock Company exported 300 tons of rice worth 200,000 USD to Singapore. The fact that "made in Thanh Hoa" rice products were officially exported to the world on a large scale for the first time has opened up a development direction not only for businesses but also raised the value of Thanh Hoa rice.

According to Tran Xuan Trung, Deputy Director in charge of import and export trade, Lam Son Sugarcane Joint Stock Company, the company has basically completed the procedures with its partner, Kematsu Company of Japan, and is expected to export the first batch of rice to the Japanese market in June 2025. Also in 2025, the company has signed a contract with a partner to export from 1,200 tons to 1,500 tons of rice to foreign markets.

Singapore, Australia. To have a source of rice materials that meet export standards, in the spring rice crop, in addition to the company's concentrated production of 500 hectares of rice in Thieu Hoa district, the company also cooperates with people in Dong Son, Ha Trung, Trieu Son districts to grow rice and purchase products for export.

Every year, the whole province maintains a rice cultivation area of ​​227,500 hectares, ranking first in the North Central and Northern regions, with food output maintained at 1.57 million tons/year. To enhance the value and brand of the province's rice products, aiming at the export market, the agricultural sector, together with localities and enterprises, has been making efforts to implement technical measures and introduce new varieties into production. In particular, the agricultural sector encourages people to introduce new rice varieties with high yield and quality into production, which are selected for import by the international market such as: ST24, ST25, J02 for the Japanese market; varieties Q5, BC, TBR1 for the Chinese market... At the same time, applying technical advances, focusing on intensive farming, paying attention to building VietGAP quality standards for rice production areas and building growing area codes for concentrated rice production areas towards export.

Chairman of the Board of Directors of VINAGREEN Investment and Development Joint Stock Company Do Minh Thuy said that the company is currently focusing on developing raw material areas with varieties of yellow sticky rice, ST25 rice, Japonica rice in Tho Xuan, Yen Dinh, Nong Cong, Trieu Son, Quang Xuong districts... The company has invited a number of partners from Japan, Germany, China, Indonesia... to survey and connect to export rice products and agricultural products of the company. Currently, the company is completing legal procedures related to export licenses and planting area planning, striving to fulfill the first rice export order in August 2025 for partners. At the end of February 2025, the company inaugurated the VINAGREEN High-Quality Agricultural Products Processing Factory in Trieu Son district with a scale of 6.5 hectares, total investment of 200 billion VND. Phase 1 of the factory has a rice processing capacity of 100,000 tons/year.

The efforts of the agricultural sector and enterprises producing, processing and exporting rice from Thanh Hoa to the world market have contributed to improving the quality and value of rice varieties, gradually enhancing the position of Thanh Hoa rice in the market.
