The family of Ms. Hoang Thi Tinh (in Ca Phe hamlet, Minh Lap commune, Dong Hy) pays attention to supplementing nutrition for the chicken flock, cleaning the barn, and vaccinating them to reduce the risk of disease outbreaks. |
Dong Hy is a mountainous district with more than 70% of the population engaged in agriculture, of which livestock farming is one of the important economic sectors. The whole district currently has about 6,400 buffaloes and cows, 52,000 pigs and 1.8 million poultry, 6 large-scale farms, 122 medium-sized farms, 208 small farms and more than 5,000 small-scale livestock households. The number of small-scale livestock households currently accounts for about 90%.
Small-scale livestock farms mixed in residential areas pose a high risk of disease outbreaks, making it difficult to manage and control diseases. Along with that, unusual weather changes, transportation and trading activities of animals and animal products pose a potential risk of disease transmission... Therefore, the People's Committee of Dong Hy district has synchronously deployed many solutions to prevent and control diseases (PCDB) in livestock herds.
During the period of 2020-2024, Dong Hy district organized 60 training courses for nearly 3,000 people; distributed 8,000 leaflets on foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), African swine fever (ASF), and avian influenza; distributed over 14,000 liters of chemicals; and 5.9 tons of lime for disinfection.
Every year, the district launches regular and unscheduled disinfection campaigns when there is a high risk of disease; implements two vaccination campaigns to create active immunity for livestock; strengthens disease surveillance, collects samples for testing and promptly handles any outbreaks. Along with that, it promotes propaganda and mobilization to build biosafety livestock facilities and farms that meet VietGAP standards.
Thanks to the effective implementation of the above solutions, if in the period 2020-2021, 90% of communes and towns were free of FMD, then in 4 years (2021-2024), 95% of communes and towns will be free of major epidemics in livestock. The number of FMD outbreaks and livestock infected with dangerous infectious diseases decreased by 10-20% compared to the average of the previous period (2016-2020)...
Up to now, 70% of livestock farms in the area have met biosafety standards, with 25 farms meeting VietGAP standards, contributing to limiting the outbreak and spread of diseases.
Ms. Hoang Thi Tinh, Ca Phe hamlet, Minh Lap commune, shared: Before, I raised a few hundred chickens so I didn't pay much attention to vaccinations. There were times when the chickens got sick and died. Thanks to participating in training courses, my family invested in building clean barns and expanding the scale of raising chickens to 6,000-8,000 chickens/year. During the raising process, I always paid attention to vaccinating the chickens and disinfecting the barns every time a new batch was introduced, so raising chickens was more effective than before.
Many households in Dong Hy district have paid attention to vaccinating their livestock. |
Mr. Ngo Van Manh, Deputy Director of Dong Hy District Agricultural Service Center, said: Up to now, the district has carried out the first vaccination and disinfection in 2025, and distributed chemicals (including 300 liters from the district budget and 650 liters from the provincial budget) to localities. We have launched a peak month of disinfection and disinfection after the first vaccination in 2025.
Implementing the first phase of livestock vaccination in 2025, the district has provided vaccines from the provincial budget with 15,000 doses of swine fever; 14,480 doses of swine erysipelas; 1,675 doses of FMD; 230,000 doses of avian influenza. For vaccines not on the support list, the Center has deployed to localities to direct the grassroots veterinary team to supervise the vaccination of livestock at each household. Up to now, 7,886 doses of rabies have been injected into dogs (reaching 60.66% of the plan assigned by the province and district); 1,143 doses of cattle erysipelas (reaching 22.86%)...
In the context of increasingly complicated livestock epidemics, ensuring PCDB is not only an urgent task but also an essential requirement to maintain local socio-economic stability.
According to Mr. Ngo Xuan Huy, Vice Chairman of Dong Hy District People's Committee: In the coming time, along with the effective implementation of vaccination on livestock, the district will continue to direct functional sectors and localities to strengthen quarantine, control transportation, slaughter and veterinary hygiene inspection. At the same time, it is recommended and instructed to farmers to spray disinfectants and sterilize in high-risk areas; keep barns clean, ensure nutrition for livestock...
