One of the highlights of the new Power Plan is that Thai Nguyen will add four small hydropower projects with a total capacity of 30 MW, helping to effectively utilize clean energy sources and improve flood control on the Cau River. At the same time, the province will also deploy a surface water solar power project on Nui Coc Lake, with a capacity of up to 220 MW.

In addition, rooftop solar power projects in the province are expected to provide about 1,019 MW. In addition, the province also has two biomass power plants in Dinh Hoa and Vo Nhai, with a total capacity of 10 MW.

Previously, on December 28, 2024, the Prime Minister signed Decision No. 1682/QD-TTg to add the BPC Vo Nhai Wind Power Plant to the Power Plan VIII, with an expected capacity of 100 MW. The project is invested by Bitexco Energy Joint Stock Company, and is expected to start measuring wind from July 2025 to July 2026.

After completing legal procedures in 2027, the plant will start construction in 2028. The expected scale includes 24 wind turbines, capacity of 100 MW, with a total investment of 3,000 to 4,000 billion VND. Phase 1 of the project, with a capacity of 50 MW, will be put into operation from 2029. Meanwhile, phase 2, with the remaining capacity of 50 MW, will be completed in 2030. The land area used for this project is about 35 hectares.

With these projects, Thai Nguyen is expected to add about 1,400 MW of electricity capacity by 2030, raising the province's total electricity capacity to 2,500 MW, exceeding the target of 2,210 MW in the Provincial Planning.

These projects not only help Thai Nguyen grow strongly in the renewable energy sector, but also promote economic development, improve the environment and create many job opportunities for local people. The legal basis for implementing the projects has been completed, and the province is making efforts to complete them ahead of schedule, aiming for sustainable and comprehensive development.
