Karate develops remarkably

Karate head coach Bui Thanh Tuoi said: In recent years, Karate in An Giang has developed quite strongly, attracting a large number of people to practice. Every year, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism coordinates with units and localities to organize provincial-level youth, student or Karate club tournaments, to create conditions for athletes to compete, gain experience, improve techniques, and contribute to encouraging the development of Karate training. At the same time, it is a good opportunity for the department to select promising factors to add to the talent team. "In addition to discovering talented children at provincial and district level competitions, the department also actively seeks new factors through promotion exams of local martial arts clubs. Thanks to that, the Karate department of An Giang province has achieved remarkable results, gradually affirming its position at regional and national tournaments" - Coach Bui Thanh Tuoi shared.

Create favorable conditions for athletes to compete

Recently, the An Giang Karate team competed quite successfully at the 4th Southern Regional Karate National Championship/2025, winning 2 gold medals, 3 silver medals, and 7 bronze medals. Specifically, athlete Pham Minh Thu won the gold medal in the women's individual Kumite category over 68kg; 4 athletes Duong Ngoc Ngoan, Le Truc Mai, Nguyen Thi Thu, and Pham Thi Bich Ngoc won the gold medal in the women's team Kumite category.

The 4th Southern Regional Karate Championship 2025 was held in Ba Ria - Vung Tau province, gathering nearly 400 athletes from 15 units, competing for over 74 sets of medals in 2 main categories: Kata (performance) and Kumite (combat) in 4 age groups (10 - 11 years old, 12 - 14 years old, 15 - 17 years old and over 18 years old). The An Giang province Karate team has 15 athletes participating.

Each match is an opportunity for athletes to demonstrate their personal skills and learn from their opponents. The tournament is not only a place to compete, but also an opportunity to promote sportsmanship and connect the community that loves Karate; an opportunity to find more outstanding faces, focusing on the national team. At the end of the tournament, the Ho Chi Minh City delegation affirmed its superior strength when winning the overall title, with 21 gold medals, 14 silver medals and 13 bronze medals; Dong Thap ranked second overall, with 14 gold medals, 9 silver medals, 13 bronze medals; Binh Duong ranked third overall, with 6 gold medals, 5 silver medals and 12 bronze medals.

Coach Bui Thanh Tuoi assessed: “The professional quality of this year's tournament has been improved, as the athletes' skills have improved a lot, thereby demonstrating the interest and investment in developing this martial art of the localities. The tournament is also an opportunity for localities to inspect and evaluate the training and development of the Karate movement, and discover promising athletes to add to the gifted team for further training and development. The results of this year's tournament of the An Giang Karate team demonstrate careful preparation in terms of tactics and physical strength before entering the tournament, along with the efforts of the athletes. Thereby, creating a favorable premise for the sport to achieve higher results in important tournaments in 2025. Immediately after the tournament, the sport will actively practice to prepare the best force to participate in the National Youth Championship in 2025, in Bac Ninh province in early June".

Currently, An Giang Karate maintains training in 3 levels, with a group of athletes with quite good expertise (5 athletes from the selected level, 1 youth athlete and 14 athletes from the gifted level). Promising athletes, such as: Vang Thi Ngoc My, Pham Minh Thu, Duong Ngoc Ngoan, Le Truc Mai, Nguyen Thi Thu and Pham Thi Bich Ngoc...

In the coming time, in addition to maintaining the strength in the Kumite weight categories, the Karate Department of An Giang province is actively training in Kata. At the same time, creating conditions for athletes to compete in friendly matches, learn from experience, improve their professional skills, and aim for high achievements in national tournaments in the coming time.
