Ho Chi Minh City Many large trees on Truong Chinh Street, Tan Binh District, were cut down to serve the construction of the Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project at the gateway to Tan Son Nhat airport.

On November 13, nearly 20 mahogany trees (monkey skull) with diameters of 50-60 cm were cut down, sawed short, and placed along Truong Chinh Street near the bow of Cong Hoa ship. Many other trees were also cut down by workers using specialized ladder trucks to cut branches, trim branches, and prepare for cutting down.

According to the HCM City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (investor), the clearance of trees in the above area is to make way for the construction of the 4km long Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project, with a total investment of more than VND4,800 billion at the airport gateway.

Of which, Truong Chinh street from Cong Hoa to near Pham Van Bach street has 17 rosewood trees and one banyan tree cut down. Cong Hoa street also has 6 trees that have to be cleared for construction. These trees are of the water scorpion and mango varieties, planted on the sidewalk.

The investor said that the clearance of the above trees will be completed on November 17. The felled wood will be handed over to the Technical Infrastructure Management Center (Department of Construction) for liquidation procedures and budget payment. After the connecting road project is completed, the above area will be replanted with trees such as rosewood, Indian laurel, ironwood, etc.

Previously, to implement the underpass project at the Tran Quoc Hoan - Phan Thuc Duyen intersection within the scope of the connecting road project, about 1,600 m2 of Hoang Van Thu Park was also cleared and a temporary road was built to serve the construction. More than 300 trees in this area were also cut down and relocated. After the project is completed, the investor will return about 700 m2 to replant trees, the remaining area will be used as sidewalks for pedestrians.

Started in December last year, the Tran Quoc Hoan - Cong Hoa connecting road project was built to connect Tan Son Nhat airport's T3 terminal when it is put into operation. This is a newly built route, starting at the Tran Quoc Hoan - Phan Thuc Duyen intersection; ending at the intersection of C12 - Cong Hoa - Truong Chinh streets.

The project has a main route 25-48 m wide with 6 lanes, along with two connecting branch roads, a nearly 1 km long overpass with 4 lanes; two underpasses at the intersections of Phan Thuc Duyen - Tran Quoc Hoan and Truong Chinh - Tan Ky Tan Quy. The project is expected to be completed in August 2024. In addition to opening a new connection route to the airport, it will help reduce congestion on existing roads such as Truong Son, Cong Hoa, Truong Chinh, Lang Cha Ca intersection...
