In the preliminary round, the Vietnamese women's basketball team defeated Iran (19-16), Maldives (21-8) and Kazakhstan (22-12). The 19th seeded team entered the group stage to meet host Singapore (6) and championship candidate Japan (3). In this round, the Vietnamese team was at a disadvantage in terms of physical strength as the two opponents did not have to play in the qualifying round. However, before the match, the host Singapore lost to Japan 6-22, so they had to beat the Vietnamese team.
In this match, the host Singapore received enthusiastic support from the stands and caused difficulties for the Vietnamese team in the first 4 minutes of the match. However, in the second half of the match at OCBC Sports Hub, the quartet Thao My, Thao Vy, Thu Hang and Tieu Duy completely controlled the game.
The Vietnamese team even had a 12-0 streak, drowning all of Singapore's efforts and bringing home the final victory with a score of 21-10.

In the second match of the same day against the Japanese team, facing a tough defense and top-class attacking style of the team leading Asia, the Vietnamese team had to accept defeat against Japan.
While Japan played with discipline and great physical strength, the Vietnamese women's 3x3 basketball team showed signs of fatigue from playing for three consecutive days. The result was not unexpected, Vietnam lost to Japan with a score of 17-10.
Although they did not win, the quartet of players Thao My, Thao Vy, Thu Hang and Tieu Duy still won tickets to continue with second place in the group, advancing to the knockout round.
In the men's event, the Vietnamese men's 3x3 basketball team accepted to stop in Group D after losing to New Zealand (seed number 4) 15-21 and Qatar (seed number 5) 16-21. Previously, like the women's team, the men's team was also physically weaker than the two opponents due to having to play in the preliminary round. In the preliminary round, the Vietnamese men's 3x3 basketball team squeezed through the narrow door of Group D of the preliminary round when defeating New Caledonia 21-11, losing to Turkmenistan 16-17, before beating Thailand as planned 21-15.
The quarter-finals of the Asian 3x3 basketball tournament will take place tomorrow afternoon (March 29).
