Innovation is the driving force for newspaper development

Since the first issue was published on April 10, 1963, under the name "Lao Cai Doi Moi Newspaper", it has affirmed that "innovation" is the motto of the newspaper. The spirit of innovation is the red thread throughout 61 years of construction and development of Lao Cai Newspaper, so that despite any difficult circumstances, the newspaper still successfully completed its assigned political tasks, becoming an important resource contributing to the development of the province. Lao Cai Newspaper always affirms its pioneering role on the political and ideological front, contributing to the victory of the struggle for national liberation, liberation of the homeland as well as the cause of building and defending the Fatherland.

Entering a new stage of development, press activities in general and Lao Cai Newspaper in particular have many basic advantages but also face many difficulties and challenges. Therefore, the requirement for innovation and creativity for the newspaper of the Provincial Party Committee has become more urgent than ever.

With the attention of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, and Provincial People's Committee, with breakthrough directions on mechanisms and policies, from January 2023, Lao Cai Newspaper is the first provincial party newspaper agency in the country to convert its operating model to self-ordering from the State. Along with that, the Standing Committee of the Provincial Party Committee set higher requirements for the newspaper to "develop Lao Cai Newspaper into the province's key multimedia communication agency in the direction of taking print newspapers as the foundation and electronic newspapers as the spearhead and breakthrough"; take the lead in providing official information about Lao Cai, closely following reality, ensuring information provision according to the motto "Fast - accurate - correct - good - comprehensive".

After more than 1 year of implementing the direction of the Provincial Party Committee, Lao Cai Newspaper has affirmed the initial success of the spirit of innovation, creating a strong change in all activities of the unit, contributing to improving the quality of the newspaper, while maintaining stability and creating momentum for development. Along with maintaining the Party's orientation in information and propaganda work, the newspaper has organized publishing activities in accordance with regulations. The content always follows the mainstream news; focuses on propagating the province's key projects; the leadership and direction of the Party Committee from the province to the grassroots; propagating major anniversaries of the country and the province. Strengthening the fight against erroneous, destructive, and distorted views of hostile forces, protecting the Party's ideological foundation, contributing to orienting public opinion, creating high consensus in society.

To carry out the assigned political tasks, Lao Cai Newspaper has operated an autonomous mechanism to ensure smoothness and efficiency, such as proactively developing and issuing documents regulating management, internal administrative processes and procedures in accordance with the new operating model; putting into operation the converged editorial office and the new interface of Lao Cai Electronic Newspaper... Along with the printed newspaper and electronic newspaper, the social networking sites Zalo, Facebook, YouTube of the Newspaper have been operating effectively. The reputation of the newspaper has been enhanced, the team of journalists in the unit continues to mature and integrate.

By the end of the first quarter of 2024, Lao Cai Newspaper's activities continued to be maintained in order and implemented according to plan; publishing and distributing 54 regular issues, weekend newspapers and newspapers for ethnic minorities. A total of 12,595 news, articles and photos were published (an increase of 3,595 compared to the first quarter of 2023), of which the number of news reached 38%, articles reached 29%, and photos reached 105% of the plan assigned by the province in 2024. There were nearly 4 million visits and accesses to Lao Cai Electronic Newspaper and the unit's social networking site (an increase of nearly 2 million visits compared to the first quarter of 2023), including Lao Cai Electronic Newspaper (1.2 million views); Lao Cai Newspaper fanpage (more than 2.1 million views, an increase of 63.3% compared to the previous quarter; nearly 5,000 new followers, an increase of 153% compared to the previous quarter).

Continue to pay attention to improving the political capacity, professional qualifications, expertise, and professional ethics of the staff, civil servants, and workers in the unit. The Editorial Board determines that no matter how much technology and forms of journalism change, the quality of journalistic products is still mainly determined by the intelligence, talent, and ethics of journalists. Therefore, on the one hand, we must well implement the Democratic Regulations, arouse the creativity and dedication of each reporter, editor, and worker, and on the other hand, we must set higher requirements and put more positive pressure on the staff and workers in the unit to constantly practice, maintain political capacity, and uphold the social responsibility of journalists before the Party and the People.

Promote the application of information technology, develop electronic newspapers and social networking sites of the unit to promptly meet the needs of readers. Build specialized foreign language pages to serve the province's foreign affairs. Regularly innovate the form of publications to attract and meet the diverse needs of readers in the province, domestically and internationally.

Pay attention to developing data journalism, building in-depth, focused, and key articles in each field associated with important events, holidays, and anniversaries of the country, the province, and with the development planning of regions, sectors, and fields of the locality; participate in summarizing practices, orienting public opinion; contribute to promoting the potential and strengths of the land, culture, and people of Lao Cai to domestic and international friends.

Actively participate in propaganda to protect the Party's ideological foundation, fight against erroneous and hostile viewpoints. Promote education on the traditional history of the homeland and country, especially for the young generation of Lao Cai...
