(NLDO) - NASA described what they captured as a pair of eyes staring in a terrifying manner, surrounded by blood-red "streams".
According to NASA, this super scary image was taken by the James Webb Space Telescope, which the agency developed and currently co-operates with ESA and CSA (European and Canadian space agencies).
These ghostly eyes from space are actually IC 2163 and NGC 2207, two galaxies that are actively forming stars.

Each year, these galaxies produce the equivalent mass of 20 of our Suns in stars, while the old Milky Way that contains Earth only produces about 2-3 times as many stars as our Sun.
The ghostly images captured by the telescope were due to their interaction with each other.
These galaxies first passed each other millions of years ago and are continuing to pass each other again.
The smaller spiral galaxy on the left, catalogued as IC 2163, passes behind NGC 2207, the larger spiral galaxy on the right.
Each time the galaxies pass each other, they collide and are jostled. This could lead to a full-blown merger in the future, starting with the spiral “arms,” then the bright nucleus that forms the eye from space.
The merger we are seeing is far from over, though. The spiral structures of both galaxies are still clearly visible, suggesting they have not yet impacted each other significantly.
In the future, as gravity squeezes them tighter, the interaction strengthens, and both galaxies will shine brighter because of accelerated star formation.
Eventually, however, star formation will slow as their stores of gas and dust are depleted after the merger, and the scene will become quiet.
