5G network accelerates in Vietnam, setting a new speed peak

The average 5G network speed in Vietnam in March 2025 reached its highest level since its official commercialization, marking a significant step forward in the journey of developing national telecommunications technology.

According to data from the i-Speed ​​platform of the Vietnam Internet Network Information Center (VNNIC), the average download speed of the 5G network nationwide reached 247.78 Mbps, and the upload speed was 58.15 Mbps.

Da Nang is the leading locality in 5G access speed with 408.58 Mbps, followed by Hanoi, Can Tho and Ho Chi Minh City. Regarding network operators, Viettel currently holds the number one position with download speed reaching 278.01 Mbps, upload speed 66.39 Mbps; VNPT ranks second, while MobiFone does not have official statistics yet.

After nearly half a year since its commercialization in late October 2024, the 5G network in Vietnam has significantly improved, thanks to network operators simultaneously expanding coverage and optimizing infrastructure. This is a positive signal for the goal of national digital transformation, especially when high network speed is a key factor in deploying advanced digital services.

Not only 5G network, mobile and fixed broadband access speed also witnessed strong growth. Da Nang continued to maintain the leading position in mobile Internet access speed with 117.31 Mbps.

Meanwhile, Hai Phong is the locality with the fastest fixed broadband speed at 251.96 Mbps. Regarding fixed network providers, CMC took the lead with an upload speed of 140.72 Mbps and a download speed of 135.81 Mbps.

Speed ​​is not the only factor, however. Experts say Vietnam needs to continue expanding coverage, especially in rural areas, while improving access to affordable 5G devices for its citizens.

Network operators are racing to upgrade their minimum bandwidth to 300 Mbps, a move that shows the domestic telecommunications market is entering a new phase of development - where speed, quality and accessibility will be three vital factors.
