Miss Snake makes ao dai with snake painting

At the Tet Ty 2025 exhibition recently held at the Vietnam Fine Arts Museum, Miss Dang Thi Ngoc Han surprised everyone when she wore an extremely attractive self-designed ao dai. On the light pink ao dai, there was a prominent pattern of a small snake curled up in a spiral shape surrounding a smiling face with interwoven colorful circles. The girl born in 1989 said that the exhibition of the G39 artist group was also an opportunity for her to introduce to the public the At Ty collection, including ao dai and scarf designs with motifs from Ty paintings by artist Le Thiet Cuong.

The beauty queen born in the year of the Snake shared: "As soon as I saw the paintings of artist Le Thiet Cuong, I felt sympathy and recognized myself in them. The artist's snake paintings can evoke many different ideas in viewers, but I was impressed with the carefree innocence."

Ngoc Han boldly asked for copyright and the artist agreed to put the snake painting on the costume. Although she was very excited to make this collection in her birthday year, the beauty did not dare to expect much from the public. The 2-month period for a mini collection of 10 ao dai designs and 6 scarf designs shows the serious investment she put into each design. She said that thanks to working with a famous senior artist who is known for being picky and careful, she trained herself to be meticulous and careful in each step of putting the painting on fabric. With her strengths in creativity and design, Ngoc Han came up with many options for layout, painting placement on the costume, color coordination, manual details... and only completed the design when the artist "approved".

"I was very surprised to receive so many compliments. I haven't even had time to take pictures of the At Ty collection to promote it, but friends and customers who came to the store saw it, complimented it, and bought a lot," Ngoc Han said.

From the Four Snakes motif to the snake nested in international brand logos

This Lunar New Year season, using the image of the Snake mascot as the main motif for costumes, jewelry and fashion accessories has become a prominent trend. Not only "covering" the men's and women's ao dai fashion lines during the Tet season, this unique pattern also appears on dresses, shirts, jackets, scarves, shoes, bags, watches, jewelry...

Stylist Hoang Ku, founder of the Unknown Cliché brand, said that as a fashion designer in many different roles, he believes in feng shui elements, so he put many ideas into the color palette of the Tet ao dai and especially the Tu Ty pattern, which is typical for the year of At Ty 2025. This is a pattern of four hand-painted snakes entwined together to form a square block, the square blocks are arranged in a diamond shape, using heat transfer printing technology on a taffta fabric background in red, green, blue and ivory. The pattern was designed by artist Tung Lam specifically for the brand and has received many compliments for its sophistication and uniqueness.

The male stylist said that many customers are looking for Ao Dai and snake-themed costumes to wear during Tet and the spring of the Year of the Snake. The costumes must meet aesthetic criteria - beautiful, not "cheesy" but not scary. Realizing this practical need, he not only makes Ao Dai but also short shirts with printed patterns or logo patterns to wear with long pants, creating a youthful, comfortable yet trendy look.

Not to be left out, many international brands have also introduced practical designs with the image of the snake representing the Year of the Snake embedded in their logos. Burberry, Giorgio Armani, Gucci… all have products or collections specifically for the Asian market in general and countries celebrating the Lunar New Year of the Snake in particular.

If you are still hesitant to wear a spring outfit with a snake motif, you may be surprised to see a model from French jewelry brand APM Monaco wearing a snake jewelry set including a ring, bracelet, necklace and earrings made of silver and precious stones. In addition, Prada's 18K gold snake ring, Bvlgari's Serpenti gold and diamond necklace or the Harry Winston luxury watch, which is limited to 8 pieces, are unique and different ways for the fashion world to celebrate 2025.
