The organizing committee awarded the precious gold medal in bocce to Nguyen Chau Hoang Phuc after the 2004-born athlete successfully defeated Molefe Katso of Special Olympics (SO) Botswana in a dramatic final match.
This is truly a very valuable reward after the tireless efforts of Hoang Phuc and the Special Olympics Vietnam Organization (SO Vietnam) to participate in this year's Olympics.
Expressing his emotions when winning the gold medal, Phuc said that he wanted to send this honor to his parents, teachers and all his friends, who have always been there to encourage and share, helping him gain the motivation to constantly improve in training as well as in life.
I expressed my wish to become a professional athlete in the future to have the opportunity to help people in similar situations play sports and live their passion.
Attending this sporting event, Ms. Doan Thi Hai Anh, Head of SO Vietnam delegation, said that in the past few days, Vietnamese athletes have competed in three events: athletics, swimming and woodball, including one athletics athlete and one swimmer who made it to the final round.
In addition, Vietnam still has athletes competing in the coming days.
She also said that the athletes' spirits are very high. They have gradually become accustomed to the pace of life, as well as the intensity of training and competition in Berlin, while also having no difficulty in traveling and living.
