The truth about the lobster that costs only 39,000 VND/piece and is flooding the market

Lobster is always in the top of the high-end seafood segment, so it is quite expensive in the Vietnamese market. However, in recent days, many online markets are selling lobsters at super cheap prices, only 39,000 VND/piece.

This price makes many housewives startled. Because before, the price of lobsters was up to millions of dong, small frozen products also cost several hundred thousand dong per kilo. But now, on the online market, 1 lobster costs only 1kg of sweet potato.

Speaking with VietNamNet, Ms. Bui Thi Thu - a seafood seller on an online market with hundreds of thousands of members participating in buying and selling - admitted that these were suffocated lobsters kept in ice, each weighing only 100 grams (100 grams), not live, swimming lobsters.

Mr. Truong Van Sang - owner of a seafood store in Hoang Mai (Hanoi) - said that each type of lobster on the market is sold at a different price. Not to mention the price of live lobster (swimming) is different from frozen or iced lobster; or the price of large lobsters is also more expensive than small lobsters...

1 lobster weighing 100g is priced at 39,000 VND, equivalent to 1kg at 390,000 VND. This price is equal to the price of 3 or 4 lobsters/kg of suffocated goods currently sold on the market. Notably, large lobsters will have more meat, the meat is also firmer and more flavorful than small lobsters. (See details)

Dragon fruit price drops

The price of Binh Thuan dragon fruit has dropped sharply. According to Tri Thuc - Znews , fruit shops in many traditional markets in Ho Chi Minh City are currently selling Binh Thuan dragon fruit at a listed price of only 10,000-15,000 VND/kg, while about a week ago, Binh Thuan dragon fruit was priced at 25,000 VND/kg depending on the type. The price of dragon fruit bought at the garden is currently only a few thousand VND per kg.

Mr. Xuan Duong, a dragon fruit trader, said that in previous off-season dragon fruit seasons, the price of dragon fruit purchased at the garden remained stable at 15,000-20,000 VND/kg. But at this time, even dragon fruit with beautiful appearance is only purchased by wholesalers for 8,000-9,000 VND/kg. Defective or unattractive products are only priced at 4,000-5,000 VND/kg, even down to 2,000-3,000 VND/kg.

Explaining this situation, Mr. Huynh Canh, Chairman of the Binh Thuan Province Dragon Fruit Association, said that in the Chinese market, dragon fruit consumption is slow, along with excess production, so prices have dropped sharply. On the other hand, unfavorable weather conditions have affected the quality of dragon fruit, causing prices to no longer be as high as in previous lighting seasons.

Vietnamese durian "alone in the market", sky-high price

Currently, only Vietnam has fresh durian, so the price is very high. On November 18, according to Nguoi Lao Dong , the price of durian at purchasing warehouses in the Mekong Delta is about 180,000-190,000 VND/kg of Monthong type A and 135,000-140,000 VND/kg of Ri 6 type A, double the price of the main crop. Type B durian is 20,000 VND/kg lower and type C is 40,000 VND/kg lower than type A.

Mr. Dang Phuc Nguyen, General Secretary of the Vietnam Fruit and Vegetable Association, said that Vietnam is currently "all alone" in the durian market, so the price is good, especially during the off-season when output is low. At times when goods are needed, warehouse owners are willing to buy Monthong durian grade A for 200,000 VND/kg.
