Recently, he has been considered a favorite face in the movie Father's Gift with his co-star Thu Ha Ceri. The younger brother of actress Luu Huyen Trang shared the most honest things with Dan Tri reporter about this role.
Confused with the new role
Playing the role of a 20-year-old young man living in the countryside with a rather naive personality, how did Duy Khanh prepare for the movie "Father's Gift"?
- In fact, this role is a bit strange for me personally because the audience already knows me through previous films such as Battle of the Mind, Mirror Mask, Village Street ... with the image of a people's police officer who is always white, neat in appearance, and has slightly shiny hair.
In Father's Gift , my real age this year is 26 years old, 5-6 years older than Hieu, so I had to try to disguise myself to look younger but dress as simply as possible to suit the village setting.
At first, when I knew I had to be dark in the new movie, every morning, I jogged, exercised, and sunbathed for an hour in the park. Or, on days when I was tired, I would sit in the sun without doing anything. I was shirtless, wearing only shorts, exposing all parts of my body to make the film as dark as possible. Luckily, I didn’t have a fever or cold, but the first 1 or 2 days I was quite tired, probably due to dehydration.
Did Khanh know how to drive a truck before acting?
- In the movie, I actually drove. Actually, I had not yet learned how to drive, but the movie required the actors to drive, so at first, I was a bit worried because I didn't know how to drive. Later, thanks to my father, who is a "driver", he taught me how to drive in his free time.
Also, my girlfriend knows how to drive and she has a car. So whenever I have time, I will borrow my sister's car and ask my dad to teach me or my girlfriend to show me how to drive a few laps in a deserted area. When filming, there are actually not many driving scenes and they are not difficult.
For this film, for me personally, I prepared more than previous projects. In the films where I played a police officer, I had experience and could visualize in my head what a soldier would look like, so the preparation of the character's costume, demeanor, and psychology was also shortened.
When it comes to professional preparation, do you find it difficult?
- When the audience watches the movie, the character Hieu in the movie does not have a completely peaceful life. He also has conflicts and disagreements with his two older siblings.
When such a climax occurs, I have to prepare myself mentally quite deeply, have to think about how the character's psychology will develop, understand the character's mood and express each word and sentence. Because this type of role has a different way of thinking from the previous types of roles I have done, it also took me time to get used to it.
When I got to the set, thanks to the guidance of the directors and production team, I was more prepared. In addition, depending on the surrounding factors, props and the juggling of my co-stars, we would have to respond to the script immediately, which felt completely different from practicing at home. But I was not afraid of any scene.

From your perspective, what was the most difficult scene to film among the scenes shown on television?
- For me, it was the scene where the siblings argued when they found out Hieu bought a truck to start a business. The scenes with his father were mainly emotional and gentle, while with the character Ninh "loe", most of the scenes were cheerful and youthful.
The scene of arguing with his siblings on the anniversary of his mother's death was a psychologically difficult scene to film. Because, when it was revealed that he had bought a truck, and even used his father's savings to buy it, Hieu was both shy and embarrassed in front of his siblings. Previously, Hieu was already afraid of Mr. Nghia and Ms. Thao, so his mood suddenly became uneasy and confused, not knowing how to react. Therefore, I had to show other logical moods that followed.
What do the character Hieu and actor Luu Duy Khanh have in common in real life?
- I am an outgoing, cheerful person, but Hieu is only 30% like me. Hieu is not outgoing but has a cheerful personality. Another difference is that we are emotional and care about the people around us.
The first time working with "seniors" in the profession like actress Thanh Tu or Meritorious Artist Vo Hoai Nam, did Khanh feel confused?
- Luckily, the first time I worked with Thanh Tu or Nam's father, the "seniors" always chatted happily, thereby creating a good impression so that all the actors could work together easily. Nam's father is inherently cheerful and sociable, and so is Thanh Tu. Therefore, I did not feel any barriers or age gaps, I was able to keep up with the pace of the film.
Even Ms. Minh Hoa, Ms. Huong Giang or Mr. Tuan Tu, all the actors are gentle and devoted to teaching their children. I think that not only myself but also other young people receive full support from their "seniors" and positive energy from them.
As for actor Vo Hoai Nam, do you have any memorable memories?
- I remember during breaks, Nam's father often came up with ideas to film TikTok. One special thing about this film is that he started playing TikTok and this account increased its followers quite quickly. At that time, he didn't know about this video platform, so every time he waited to film, he would play games and just sit in one place, looking quite sad.
Since I learned about TikTok, whenever I have free time, when the director says "cut", my dad takes out his phone, edits the clip, and asks everyone in the crew how to edit it. There were even times when the two of us were talking to each other, my dad suddenly came up with an idea and asked me to film a clip (laughs).
Respect professional relationships
So with your co-star, Thu Ha Ceri, what is your secret to creating such good "chemistry"?
- The biggest thing we have in common is our youthfulness. Besides, Thu Ha and I did not discuss with each other in advance how to create an effective "chemical reaction". I think the current audience's affection for us is due to our charm as actors and the cuteness of the character couple.
And these two characters seem to be built as a childhood sweetheart couple, Ninh "loe" is very interested in Hieu but he doesn't pay attention yet so there will be funny and sad stories surrounding them. We simply stick to the script to act.
Are you two afraid of "fake love in movies, real love"?
- I have always affirmed that Thu Ha and I are just colleagues, we have our own lives, I have a girlfriend and Thu Ha has a boyfriend. I respect professional relationships, I never want to let emotions get in the way of work. I always tell myself that this job is more sensitive and harsh than other professions, so whatever I do, I have to think about the people at home, so when appearing on platforms, I always keep my distance from Thu Ha.
However, for an actor in his prime like Khanh, is it disadvantageous to make his lover public?
- Honestly, I'm not afraid. I always believe that everything I do is for my family. If you say that making your girlfriend public affects your work, in this acting profession, people will only think that it upsets your female fans.
I am very grateful for the audience's affection, but I also hope to receive love and support as an actor with my contributions on the artistic path. Not only me, my "seniors" are all very happy with their families, so what?
Having an older sister, actress Luu Huyen Trang, as a colleague in the family, does Khanh feel pressured?
- In return, I feel lucky and happy to have Trang to share the joys and sorrows of the profession. Sometimes, I also ask her about the movie script. My parents always support their children to do what they like.
