Reuters news agency posted a video released by the Kremlin, in which Mr. Putin stated: "We will ask officials to monitor the use of nuclear weapons with actual launches of ballistic and cruise missiles."

According to the leader, nuclear forces are a "reliable guarantee" of Russia's sovereignty and security, so the country will continue to improve its nuclear deterrence, carry out strategic restraint tasks, and maintain the balance of nuclear power in the world.

Mr. Putin affirmed that Moscow does not participate in an arms race or enter a new arms race, but needs to maintain the strength and combat readiness of its nuclear forces at a "sufficient" level.

The Kremlin chief noted that the strategic missile forces will be modernized, with higher accuracy, shorter launch times and better missile defense capabilities.

In addition, the Russian President also warned Western countries of the consequences if they allow Ukraine to attack deep into his country's territory.

Earlier, a special forces base in Chechnya, 850km from Ukraine, was attacked by UAVs.
