Dien Thai Commune (Dien Chau) is a locality where many outbreaks of African swine fever have appeared in small-scale livestock farms in recent days. Ms. Dinh Thi Trang - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: This morning (October 5), a household in Hamlet 8 reported that a sow had died. The local government has directed the hamlet to destroy the pig, because currently in the commune there are many outbreaks of African swine fever in Hamlets 1, 2, 3, 7, 9 and Tan Nam.

"Since September, many outbreaks have occurred in the commune, mainly in small-scale farms, and 17 infected pigs have been destroyed. To serve the epidemic prevention work, the commune has proactively purchased 45 liters of chemicals and 1 ton of lime powder, and at the same time opened a training course on disease prevention for livestock. All chemicals, including lime powder, are being distributed to hamlets to implement environmental sanitation solutions. Currently, the total local pig herd is more than 400," said Ms. Dinh Thi Trang.
According to information from the Dien Chau District Agricultural Service Center, since the beginning of the year, 14 communes in the district have had this disease recur, with a total of 175 pigs having to be destroyed. Currently, there are still 4 communes with the disease: Dien Thai, Dien Nguyen, Minh Chau and Dien Loi.

Yen Thanh is also a locality where African swine fever is recurring in some communes. In early October, a pig died in the family of Mrs. Tran Thi Lan in Trung Nam hamlet, Phuc Thanh commune.
Upon receiving the news, the local veterinary staff took samples and sent them to the veterinary agency for testing. The test results of the Veterinary Department of Region III showed that the sample was positive for African swine fever. The local authorities have implemented a number of disease prevention measures according to the recommendations of the veterinary agency and have informed the people to implement disease prevention measures, preventing the disease from spreading widely.
Mr. Nguyen Trong Huong - Director of Yen Thanh District Agricultural Service Center said: Since the beginning of the year, African swine fever has occurred in 9 communes, a total of 390 pigs have been destroyed, with a total weight of nearly 15,000 kg; currently, there are 5 communes with the epidemic including: Van Thanh, Hau Thanh, Phuc Thanh, Hoa Thanh and Tang Thanh.

According to the Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, African swine fever has only occurred in a few small-scale farms in Dien Chau and Yen Thanh districts. The outbreaks have been handled by the authorities and specialized agencies at all levels on a small scale, applying synchronous epidemic prevention solutions such as: destruction, disinfection, regular monitoring, propaganda, establishment of inspection teams, etc.
The Department of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine recommends that to prevent African swine fever, farmers need to implement environmental disinfection solutions, buy breeding animals of clear origin, disease-free... especially vaccination. Currently, Vietnam has a vaccine to prevent African swine fever, which has been widely deployed in many provinces and cities and has shown safe and effective results.
African swine fever has occurred in Nghe An since the beginning of 2019. This dangerous disease for pigs has spread to all districts, towns and cities in the province in a short time, affecting the economy of the people and the State./.
