Among these, the Fire Dancing Festival of the Pa Then people was recognized for the second time as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage, for the Pa Then community in Hong Quang commune, Lam Binh district, Tuyen Quang province.
The Pa Then people in Tuyen Quang mainly reside in Thuong Minh village, Hong Quang commune (Lam Binh) and Linh Phu commune (Chiem Hoa), with about 700 people. When mentioning the Pa Then people, people mention the fire dancing ceremony and vice versa. The fire dancing ceremony of the people usually takes place during the off-season, when all the farming work is finished, around October 16 of the previous lunar year to January 16 of the following lunar year. The ceremony is held in a large yard in the village and is divided into two parts, the offering before sunset takes place for about 3-4 hours and the fire dancing after dark takes place for about 1 hour.
The first part is the shaman inviting the gods to participate in the ceremony and enter the students. The second part is the fire jumping ritual, a large fire has been lit and burned into red hot coals. The participants will take turns jumping into the pile of hot coals, using both their bare hands and feet to break the fire until it dies out. The most mysterious thing about the fire jumping ceremony is that the Pa Then boys bravely jump barefoot on hot coals without getting burned.
The fire dancing ceremony has its own identity of the Pa Then community, has a strong and profound impact on the spiritual life, on the shaping of the soul and character of the Pa Then people, demonstrating the extraordinary strength of people who dare to face difficulties, challenges, and chase away bad luck. Lam Binh district is the earliest locality in the province to organize the reception of the registration certificate on September 26.
