The Lồng Tông Festival in Lâm Bình district, Tuyên Quang province, is rich in traditional culture, passed down through generations in the spiritual and cultural life of the Tày people in this area.
The Lồng Tông Festival is held in the early spring, a time of harmony between heaven and earth, and is an occasion for people to express their spiritual beliefs and strive for a peaceful, prosperous, and happy life.
The Lồng Tông Festival will be held over two days, February 8-9, 2025 (corresponding to the 11th and 12th days of the first lunar month of the Year of the Snake).
Every year, after the Lunar New Year, the Tay ethnic villages throughout Lam Binh district excitedly organize the Long Tong Festival (also known as the Rice Planting Festival - recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage).
Lam Binh district (Tuyen Quang province) receives the Certificate recognizing "Knowledge and practices of wet rice cultivation of the Tay people" as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Within the framework of the festival, activities include: the Lồng Tông Festival; receiving the National Intangible Cultural Heritage Certificate for "Knowledge and practices of wet rice cultivation of the Tay people in Lăng Can, Hồng Quang, Khuôn Hà, Thượng Lâm, and Phúc Yên communes, Lâm Bình district, Tuyên Quang province"; a cultural program celebrating the Party and the Lunar New Year of Ất Tỵ 2025; organizing booths to display and introduce products, tools for labor, production, daily life, and traditional handicrafts of the communes, associated with cultural and sports activities and traditional folk games of ethnic groups; organizing goat fighting competitions, ethnic cultural performances, beautiful embroidery competitions, and fishing competitions…

The Lồng Tông Festival is one of the largest and most vibrant traditional festivals of the Tay ethnic group, held at the beginning of the Lunar New Year to express the villagers' wishes for favorable weather, abundant harvests, and prosperity for all.

The Lồng Tông Festival in Lâm Bình district, Tuyên Quang province, consists of two main parts: the ceremonial part and the festive part.
The ceremony was meticulously and thoughtfully prepared, with the participation of 10 communes and towns in the district. Offerings were presented at the Pú Bảo Temple, then carried in a procession to the central stadium, where the main pole was placed. The ritual was performed to express reverence to heaven and earth, praying for divine blessings for favorable weather, good health, lush vegetation, abundant life, and a bountiful harvest.
The ceremony was meticulously and thoughtfully prepared, with the participation of 10 communes and towns in the district.
Following the ceremonial part is the festive part with unique dances performed by Tay boys and girls, such as scarf dances and fan dances. Locals and tourists participate together in folk games such as throwing the ball, tug-of-war, brocade weaving competitions, kite fighting, stilt walking, spinning top games, crossbow shooting, rice planting competitions, and buffalo plowing competitions, creating a joyful atmosphere for the first day of spring. These traditional folk games in the festival reflect the rich spiritual beauty, connected to nature and the long-standing cultural customs of the Tay people.

The preservation, restoration, and promotion of the Lồng Tông Festival in Lâm Bình district, carried out on an increasingly large and systematic scale, contributes to the development of the unique cultural aspects of the Tày people's spiritual life in Tuyên Quang, which is something truly commendable.
