Farmers' Associations at all levels have been accompanying members and farmers in planting and caring for spring forests, aiming to restore the forest area damaged by storm No. 3, and making efforts to keep the forest greener.

Leaders of Ba Che District Farmers' Association (middle) discuss with people about acacia planting techniques.

The forest will grow green again.

Ba Che is one of the localities with a large forest area damaged by storm No. 3 in 2024. The total damaged forest area of the locality is up to more than 13,800 hectares with more than 2,400 farming households affected. To restore the planted forest area, the local government has directed the communes to increase information and propaganda to the people, proactively clean up the damaged forest area, prepare the field conditions for spring forest planting, and soon restore forestry production.

Taking advantage of the spring rains after Tet, Mr. Ly Ngoc Son's family (Lang Han village, Don Dac commune, Ba Che district) replanted 3 hectares of acacia hills damaged by storms since 2024. Previously, the acacia crop on this area was 2 years old, but due to storm No. 3, all the acacia trees were broken and fell. Since the year, his family has harvested, cleared the ground, and prepared the site to replant a new acacia crop with the hope of quickly restoring the lost acacia area. Mr. Son said: These days, the weather is good, the soil is moist, very suitable for planting trees. Since the 6th day of Tet, my family has bought more than 10,000 acacia seedlings to replace the previous crop. Hopefully the weather will be favorable and the trees will grow well.

Mr. Ly Ngoc Son's family took advantage of the spring rains to replant the forest area damaged by Typhoon Yagi last year.

Along with restoring damaged forest areas, right after Tet, many member households and farmers also took advantage of favorable weather to prune, weed, hoe, and fertilize existing acacia hills. Mr. Dang Van Ha's family (Lang Cang village, Don Dac commune, Ba Che district) currently has nearly 10 hectares of 2-5 year old acacia trees. For many years, acacia trees have become the main source of income for Mr. Ha's family. Right from the 5th day of Tet, his family gathered forces to prune and care for their acacia hills.

Mr. Ha said: In 2024, storm No. 3 damaged 2/3 of the family's acacia plantation area. After the storm, my family proceeded to clean up and collect the fallen trees. In areas with minor damage, the family is also continuing to prune branches, weed, and fertilize the trees so that they can continue to grow.

Mr. Dang Van Ha's family (Lang Cang village, Don Dac commune, Ba Che district) organized pruning and taking care of the family's acacia forest.

Not only in Ba Che, in many localities, forest farmers are also rushing to start the new forest planting season, quickly regenerating the forest after the storm. In just a few years, about 8 hectares of acacia trees of Mrs. Truong Thi Mui's family (Vang Danh ward, Uong Bi city) will be harvested. However, the fierce storm caused tens of thousands of acacia trees to fall, causing heavy damage. Continuing to cling to the forest, overcoming difficulties, Mrs. Mui as well as many households living from forest planting quickly cleaned up, prepared the ground, seedlings, fertilizers, and started the new production season right after Tet. Mrs. Mui said: I hope these seedlings will grow well, quickly re-greening the damaged forest area in 2024.

Together with members and farmers, we rebuild forestry production.

Accompanying the government and households in planting forests, the Provincial Farmers' Association also directed all levels of Farmers' Associations to strengthen propaganda, education, and raise awareness for cadres and members about the significance of planting trees, planting forests, and protecting resources. At the same time, participate with local functional agencies to conduct inventories and review member households and farmers who suffered losses to develop support plans; coordinate with the government and organizations to organize activities in response to the Tree Planting Festival "Forever grateful to Uncle Ho", focusing on planting large timber trees and indigenous trees with high economic value such as lim, giổi, and lat.

Tien Yen farmers are looking to buy seedlings to prepare for the first forest planting season of the year.

Mr. Khuc Thanh Nghi, Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Ba Che District, said: The Farmers' Association of the district has actively encouraged members and farmers to take advantage of favorable weather to plant new forests, replacing the forest land area damaged after the storm. At the same time, it has instructed people on planting techniques and caring for new crops, ensuring that the newly planted forest areas grow and develop well. Along with that, it has exchanged and connected with gardeners and seedling suppliers to meet the capacity of supplying seeds to people in the first forest planting season of the year.

According to Mr. Nguyen Van Duong, Chairman of the Provincial Farmers' Association, all levels of the association will continue to launch and turn the planting and protection of forests and trees into a widespread emulation movement throughout the province; maintain the tree planting movement continuously until the end of the year, especially in early spring, associated with the restoration of the planted forest area damaged by storm No. 3. Along with that, the planting of forests and trees by officials and farmer members will be linked to the movement of farmers competing in production and business, uniting to help each other get rich and reduce poverty sustainably, the movement to build new rural areas and implement the overall program of sustainable socio-economic development, firmly ensuring national defense and security in communes, villages and hamlets of ethnic minority areas.

Chairman of the People's Committee of Dai Xuyen commune (Van Don district) Pham Van Luan:

Strive for 100% of forestry land area of members and farmers to be replanted by 2025

Storm No. 3 in 2024 in Dai Xuyen commune had 217 member households and forest farmers damaged, with a total area of about 500 hectares. After the storm, the commune Farmers' Association and authorities at all levels and organizations mobilized people to quickly clean up, collect and immediately plant forest areas that met the conditions. Along with that, they accompanied people to inventory the damage, make a list to request support according to Decree 02/20217/ND-CP (dated January 9, 2017) of the Government on mechanisms and policies to support agricultural production to restore production in areas damaged by natural disasters and epidemics.

For households that are not eligible for support under this regulation, the Commune Farmers' Association has also made a list and proposed support through the Vietnam Fatherland Front's channel. For households that are carrying out new planting, the association has disseminated and instructed people in need of fertilizer to register to be connected and provided with preferential prices, helping people quickly re-green the damaged forest area. Up to this point, about 60% of the forest area has been re-planted, and it is expected that by the end of the year, 100% of the forests of members and farmers in the commune damaged by storm No. 3 will be replanted.

Mr. Vu Minh Thuong (Son Duong commune, Ha Long city):

Actively prepare the ground and seedlings to replant damaged forest areas.

My family currently has 8 hectares of forestry land. In 2024, storm No. 3 caused 4 hectares of 3-year-old acacia to completely collapse. During the year, my family has been collecting damaged acacia, burning the ground, cleaning and preparing the site.

After Tet, my family connected with a seedling supplier, ordered more than 120,000 hybrid acacia trees and prepared to dig holes. Now we are just waiting for more favorable weather, with rain and moisture, and my family will immediately replant 4 hectares of acacia.

Chairman of Binh Lieu District People's Committee Luong Xuan Long:

Diversify loan channels to support members and farmers

After storm No. 3 in 2024, the planted forest area of Binh Lieu district was damaged by more than 3,000 hectares. Many member households and farmers were severely affected. The district Farmers' Association has organized propaganda, guided people to quickly overcome the damage, prepared conditions for seedlings, fertilizers, and human resources to soon replant forests. In addition, we also coordinated with banks to create conditions for members and farmers to access loan sources and review households in need to appraise loans through the Farmers' Support Fund with the maximum loan amount and time.

Currently, 40-50% of members and farmers in the district whose forest areas were damaged by the storm have started reforestation. We are also continuing to mobilize households to quickly arrange human resources to implement forest planting in the spring crop this year.

Chairman of Hai Hoa Commune People's Committee (Cam Pha City) Ha Van Luong:

Efforts to encourage people to quickly restore lost forest areas

Of the nearly 1,500 hectares of forestry land in the commune damaged by natural disasters in 2024, about 1,000 hectares belong to members and farmers of the commune. Most of these are perennial acacia plantations with an age of 2-5 years. In 2024, we have propagated and instructed people to collect fallen trees and clear the ground cover. At the same time, we have introduced facilities that provide quality plant varieties to help people prepare for the new forest planting season.

To date, about 700 hectares of damaged forests of members and farmers have been replanted. We will continue to promote and mobilize people to quickly replant forests and restore the area of local forestry production land.
