Promoting the exploitation of international resources to accelerate the construction of Vietnam's digital infrastructure

Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung recently had a working trip to Japan, working with the World Bank and leaders of management agencies of other countries to expand cooperation programs to accelerate the development of Vietnam's digital infrastructure.

From December 2-4, 2024, within the framework of his working trip to Japan, Minister of Information and Communications Nguyen Manh Hung had meetings with leaders of the World Bank, leaders of the Japanese Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, leaders and leading experts on digital infrastructure and digital technology of the World Bank and countries in Asia and Eastern Europe. At the meeting with World Bank Vice President Sangbu Kim, the two sides discussed priorities for promoting cooperation between Vietnam and the World Bank in the fields of digital infrastructure, digital economy, and coordination in organizing cooperation programs and initiatives on digital technology in the region.

The two sides discussed the development of digital infrastructure in the world, policies and solutions to mobilize resources to improve the sustainability and universality of telecommunications infrastructure and essential services. These are also the main contents of the International Digital Forum, which is being organized by the World Bank for the first time for countries in Asia and Eastern Europe. Ensuring the sustainability and resilience of digital infrastructure under different conditions is a top priority for management agencies of countries, especially during natural disasters and in areas heavily affected by climate change. The digital gap is not only the ability to universalize services but also the gap in sustainability and resilience of telecommunications infrastructure and data center infrastructure of each country.

At the working session with Japanese Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Imagawa Takuo, the two sides discussed and agreed to prioritize promoting cooperation in developing 5G networks according to the O-RAN standard, researching networks beyond 5G (Beyond 5G) and 6G, developing low-altitude satellite systems, promoting the development and application of AI, sharing experience in building laws and legal corridors for postal and logistics services. Minister Nguyen Manh Hung highly appreciated Japan's "Hiroshima AI Process" initiative to enhance cooperation in developing AI and announced that the Ministry of Information and Communications officially joined the Group of Friends of this initiative. With Vietnam's participation, the Group of Friends of the initiative now has 55 member countries.

Minister Nguyen Manh Hung's working trip to Japan, working with the World Bank and leaders of management agencies of various countries, laid the foundation for expanding cooperation programs, enhancing the exploitation of international resources and experiences to accelerate the development of Vietnam's digital infrastructure with super-large capacity, super-wide bandwidth, universality, sustainability, "green", smart, open and secure.
