How and when you shower also affects your energy levels and mental health.
Best time to take a bath
Dr Kohli says there are two good times to take a bath: before sunrise - after brushing your teeth and defecating, and around sunset - before going to bed.
Studies show that evening is the most popular time to shower, followed by early morning.
Researchers say morning showers help people with arthritis relax their joints, reducing aches and pains and muscle tension throughout the day.
A quick shower in the morning can also increase blood flow and help wake you up.
On the contrary, to improve sleep quality, research from the journal Sleep Medicine Reviews shows that bathing 1-2 hours before bedtime helps you fall asleep faster and improves sleep quality .
Bathing close to bedtime helps improve blood circulation from the core of the body to the limbs, thus cooling the entire body, preparing it for sleep.
Ideal temperature of bath water
Bathing with warm water close to body temperature - about 37.8 degrees, will help reduce stress, relax muscles and nerves. This will also help you fall asleep easily.
However, you should avoid pouring water directly on your head while bathing. Dr. Kohli also cautioned against bathing immediately after eating, according to Hindustan Times.
