David Beckham denied knighthood again

David Beckham was again left out of the Royal Order of Merit when the New Year honours list was announced (more than seven years after he criticised the committee for excluding him in a leaked email).

Beckham is one of the most recognisable names and faces in British sport, having captained the England team and enjoyed an illustrious career playing for Manchester United, Real Madrid, AC Milan and PSG, winning major honours across the continent - including the Premier League, La Liga and Champions League.

He is the founder and owner of MLS club Inter Miami and due to his significant contributions to the sport, many fans have dubbed him "Mr. Waiting".

However, the 49-year-old still has to wait to be knighted.

It comes more than seven years after shocking emails were leaked in 2017, which left him out of the running for a knighthood.

Many say he called the honours committee "ungrateful" and added he "had no interest in being knighted". Leaked emails claim Beckham said: "I wouldn't expect anything less. It's embarrassing to be honest and if I was American I would have gotten something like this 10 years ago."

David Beckham has also done a lot of work for the charity UNICEF, which many thought would help him achieve his goal of being knighted, but leaked emails show he refused to donate $1 million to the organization.

The leaks also show that Beckham coldly responded to a charity PR representative asking him to spend $1 million on an awards dinner in Shanghai. "I don't want to spend my own money on this," he said.

A close friend of David Beckham told The Mirror exclusively in 2017: "He is very calm now because he knows the great work he does for UNICEF."
