After the project to organize the 33rd ASEAN Customs Directors General Conference was approved by the Ministry of Finance, in order to ensure that the conference achieved its set goals and followed the agenda that had been discussed and agreed upon among the countries, Vietnam Customs proactively prepared the content and developed a detailed operational scenario.
With efforts in management, the conference was well implemented by Vietnam Customs and received high appreciation from participating countries and partners. In particular, delegates from all countries highly appreciated the preparation and organization of the conference which was thoughtful, impressive, professional, respectful and hospitable.
The 33rd ASEAN Customs Directors-General Conference took place from June 4-6, 2024 in Phu Quoc City with the participation of 118 delegates, including 92 international delegates and 26 Vietnamese delegates.
In addition to the main contents of the conference, Vietnam Customs arranged 25 bilateral working sessions on the sidelines between member countries and partner countries as well as with the private sector.
On the Vietnamese side, during the conference, Vietnam Customs worked bilaterally with 5 customs delegations and the private sector including: China, Japan, Thailand, the US-ASEAN Business Council and the EU-ASEAN Business Council.
In particular, for China Customs, the leaders of the two Customs agencies agreed to jointly promote the negotiation and signing of the Agreement on mutual assistance and cooperation in the customs field between Vietnam and China; build a one-stop cooperation mechanism between the two agencies; develop a plan to upgrade the Mekong Dragon Campaign and promote the progress of ongoing cooperation initiatives on building smart border gates, mutual recognition of priority enterprises, and joint customs control campaigns.
Regarding Thai Customs and Japanese Customs, the two sides affirmed that they will continue to actively implement programs and initiatives in exchanging information on customs control; proactively and actively exchange and update information with partners. Especially in combating smuggling, trade fraud, illegal trading of prohibited goods and goods in the special control list.
In addition, continue to strengthen cooperation and mutual support within the bilateral framework and within ASEAN's common cooperation plans.
