The first to be mentioned is Phu Luong chili pepper - a specialty of the Muong ethnic group. Previously, this simple chili pepper only grew wild in the mountains, but now it has become a "culinary star" thanks to the secret pickling method and the sour taste of fresh lemon. Meeting the 3-star OCOP standard, chili pepper is not only a spice that enhances parties, but also brings in significant income for hundreds of ethnic minority households.
Mr. Bui Van Hung, a resident of Phu Luong commune, excitedly shared that Phu Luong chili peppers, which used to grow wild on the mountains, have now become a popular specialty. Thanks to being recognized as a 3-star OCOP, the product is more widely known and the selling price is also higher. His family has expanded the chili growing area, hoping to increase their income.
Not only Phu Luong chili peppers, turmeric starch of But Van Hoa Binh Turmeric Starch Company Limited is also shining in the market. Mr. Bui Van Pham, Mien Doi commune is very grateful to the OCOP program for creating conditions for local agricultural products to go far. Thanks to the turmeric starch product meeting OCOP 4-star standards, his family has "changed their lives", earning up to 35 - 40 million VND per crop.
He also shared that he will continue to improve product quality and expand the market to bring Lac Son turmeric starch to more consumers.
The development of OCOP products not only brings economic benefits but also promotes rural development and improves the lives of ethnic minorities.
Mr. Bui Van Huan, Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Lac Son district, said: with the viewpoint of developing high-quality OCOP products to create a foundation to promote the rural economy, improve the lives of ethnic minorities associated with new rural construction, in recent times the district has mobilized the entire political system to participate in the spirit of maximizing the potential, advantages, and local products to develop the economy and improve people's lives.
Thanks to that, up to now, the district has 15 products certified as OCOP (1 4-star product, 14 3-star products). The most prominent is the turmeric starch product of Nhung Van Hoa Binh Turmeric Starch Company Limited, which is the first product of the district to meet the 4-star OCOP standard and has been exported to a number of countries.
In addition, the district has many OCOP products such as: Chi Dao Doi seeds were granted collective trademark protection by the Department of Intellectual Property, achieving 3-star OCOP standards since 2019; Lac Son chicken of Huong Nhuong Cooperative and Chi Thien Cooperative; Egg Khe sticky rice of Mien Doi Agricultural and General Service Cooperative; Thanh An honey of Thanh An Agricultural and General Service Cooperative (My Thanh commune); brocade weaving of Luc Nghiep Thanh Agricultural and Brocade Weaving Cooperative (Yen Nghiep commune); Muong Khoi wine of Bui Van Hao business household, An Nghia commune; Phuong Bac wild sim of Phuong Bac Company Limited... have contributed to enriching the typical products of the locality.
According to Mr. Bui Van Huan, the development of OCOP products not only helps to increase production value and competitiveness of the district's agricultural products in the market, but also creates a value chain, shapes clean production areas, increases income, and improves the lives of people, especially ethnic minorities in Lac Son district.
