What's new in the Vietnam Team list in the friendly match with the Syria Team?

Coach Philipppe Troussier has officially announced the list of 30 players of the Vietnam National Team preparing for the international friendly match with the Syria National Team within the framework of FIFA Days in June 2023.

The friendly match between the Vietnam National Team and the Syria National Team will take place at 7:30 p.m. on June 20 at Thien Truong Stadium (Nam Dinh).

According to the recently announced list, the French coach kept 21 out of 23 players on the list registered to play against Hong Kong (China).

Mr. Troussier also selected 6 additional Vietnam National Team players and 3 Vietnam U23 players who did not play in the match against Hong Kong to the list to prepare for the match against the Syria National Team.

The six players selected for the Vietnam National Team include goalkeeper Tran Minh Toan, defenders Vu Van Thanh and Bui Tien Dung, and strikers Nguyen Cong Phuong, Nguyen Van Toan, and Nham Manh Dung.

Three players in the U23 Vietnam squad were given the opportunity to join the national team, including goalkeeper Nguyen Van Viet, midfielder Nguyen Thai Son, and Nguyen Duc Phu.

Along with 4 players retained after the match against Hong Kong, defender Phan Tuan Tai, midfielder Khuat Van Khang, Hoang Van Toan and striker Nguyen Van Tung, the U23 Vietnam squad included 7 players in the list to prepare for the match against the Syrian team.

The group of players of the Vietnam National Team and Vietnam U23 Team who were not on the list preparing for the match with the Syria National Team were returned to their clubs, ending the training session in June 2023.

Coach Troussier also withdrew the list of 23 players before entering the match with the Syrian team at Thien Truong Stadium (Nam Dinh).

Previously, in Philippe Troussier's debut match, the Vietnamese team tried hard but only won 1-0 against Hong Kong, thanks to the only goal scored by Que Ngoc Hai from the 11m mark.

Today (June 18), the French strategist and his students will travel to Nam Dinh to prepare for the upcoming match.

The match against the Syrian team is expected to be much more difficult for the Vietnamese team. Syria is currently ranked 90th in the world, 5 places above the Vietnamese team in the FIFA rankings.

To prepare for the match against the Vietnamese team, the Syrian team arrived in Hanoi on June 12 to practice and get used to the weather conditions.

This shows that Coach Hector Cuper's team is determined to win the match against the Vietnam Team on FIFA Days.

This is also understandable because the result of this match will greatly affect the rankings of the two teams on the world rankings. If they defeat Syria (ranked 90th in the world) in the next match, the Vietnamese team will be awarded about 5.13 points and can continue to improve their rankings.

If they maintain their position in Asia's top 18, the "Golden Star Warriors" will be in the second seed group in the 2026 World Cup qualifying draw and avoid strong teams on the continent.
