World population to reach 8.09 billion on New Year's Day

Công LuậnCông Luận31/12/2024

(CLO) The global population is expected to reach 8.09 billion people on January 1, 2025, after increasing by more than 71 million people in 2024, according to data from the US Census Bureau (USBC) released on December 30.

The projected world population on January 1, 2025, is 8,092,034,511, an increase of 71,178,087 (0.89%) compared to New Year's Day 2024, the bureau said.

The 0.9% increase in 2024 is a slight slowdown from the 75 million increase in 2023. The forecast suggests that there will be about 4.2 births and 2 deaths every second globally, indicating that population growth is continuing, albeit at a slower pace than last year.

India continues to hold its position as the world's most populous country, with an estimated population of 1.41 billion people in 2024. China follows closely with a population of nearly 1.41 billion, but its population growth has slowed significantly due to an aging population and falling birth rates.

Meanwhile, the United States is the world's third-largest country by population, estimated to reach 341 million people on New Year's Day 2025. The US population growth rate this year is expected to be 0.78%, down slightly from the 2.9% increase in the 2020s.

By January 2025, there will be a birth every 9 seconds in the United States and a death every 9.4 seconds. International migration will also contribute to population growth, with one person added every 23.2 seconds. Although the rate of population growth in the United States has slowed compared to previous years, the population continues to increase steadily.

For the world population, although the growth rate is expected to slow slightly from 1% in 2023 to 0.9% in 2024, population growth will continue to be rapid, especially in countries such as India and the United States. Future projections suggest that the world population will continue to change along current demographic trends, with increases in regions with high fertility rates and decreases in developed countries with low fertility rates and aging populations.

As the global population approaches 8.1 billion, nations and international organizations will face challenges and opportunities related to resource management and sustainable development. These trends will have far-reaching implications for economies, social structures, and global issues such as climate change and resource allocation.
