Mr. Ho Hoang Liem gives gifts to children.

Mr. Ho Hoang Liem (born 1989), Club President, said that he and the members want to bring light and knowledge to children, creating a stepping stone to help them open their own "doors" so they can see the world.

Movie screening on Ngoc Nam Roof

After an hour of hiking, the group finally reached Ngoc Nam school, village 1. The children had been waiting here since early when they heard that a group would come to show a movie and install electricity for the children to study.

As the afternoon wore on, the group quickly pushed the solar panels onto the school roof to install them before dark. Three panels were enough for teachers and students to use for the lights, projectors, and other equipment. Another group took the opportunity to prepare food and cook dinner for the children.

Ngoc Nam Kindergarten and Primary School has 32 children of preschool, first and second grade ages from three villages: Ngoc Nam, Tu Reo, Tak Pot (village 1). There is no national grid electricity system here, households and the school all use hydroelectricity and solar energy sponsored by benefactors, enough to light the bulbs.

Three solar panels had just been installed at the school, and the electrical system was activated and running as soon as it got dark. Large lights illuminated the small schoolyard, where dinners cooked by the teachers were ready for the children to enjoy.

Before the screening, the chairs were neatly arranged in rows so that the children could watch more comfortably. Ho Minh Du (9 years old) and his four-year-old sister were taken to school by their mother in the afternoon to wait for the movie. The boy and his sister obediently finished their dinner of meat, vegetables, and bread. Ho Thi Tha (28 years old), a Xo Dang woman, carefully watched her two children. Tha said that she and her husband worked in the fields to have food every day, and her husband also went to other villages to work for hire to earn extra money for living expenses.

The simple house has only a few basic items, nothing valuable. Although it was raining in the evening, but with the children's excitement, Ms. Tha still brought a raincoat to wait for them to finish watching the movie before taking them home. Ms. Tha confided: "We don't have a TV at home, normally the children create their own games to play with each other. Today, for the first time, I got to watch a movie on the big screen, seeing my children happy made me happy, even I was excited about these movies."

As soon as the movie “Doraemon” started, the children who had not finished eating quickly stopped, their eyes glued to the big screen, full of excitement, full of curiosity and instantly attracted. The candy given out by the group was no longer attractive. Behind the children, their parents, grandparents and everyone in the village were also attentively watching the movie. After “Doraemon” came “Shrimp and Jerry” and other movies.

“Perhaps, for us, this is a childhood movie that everyone has seen before, and for everyone in the village, it is almost the first time they have seen it,” said Mr. Nguyen Van Tuyen, a primary school teacher at the school. Mr. Tuyen is from Tra Ka commune (Bac Tra My district). Mr. Tuyen said that when he saw the school posting information about the lack of teachers, he registered at this school and then worked closely with the students. “The school has also had delegations come to exchange and give gifts, but today, the movies have attracted the children, everyone is interested in the story on the film. Perhaps, today's spiritual gift will make the children remember it more because it is different from the things where they live, it creates a new acceptance,” said Mr. Tuyen.

Install solar power to donate to school.

The Pink Smile Charity Club also donated a projector, sound system and other equipment to the school to serve future teaching and learning as well as to continue showing films for the children to watch. Along with that, it supported the water pipeline system from the stream to the school, learning tools, school bags, school uniforms, new clothes, blankets, milk, candy, raincoats...

"The door" for children to see the world

During many years of establishing the Club and choosing directions, Pink Smile is still determined with the project of installing solar power stations for schools and bringing cinemas up the mountain for children.

Head of the Pink Smile Charity Club, Ho Hoang Liem, confided: We chose to start with the children, because only the children can change the future. Most of them stop studying at primary school. From secondary school, they have to go down the mountain, which is a very long way to go to school. We want them to feel how vast and rich life is outside. And to be able to "touch" that world, they need to study. We hope that the program will contribute to the luggage, creating motivation to help children overcome the mountains and forests to go to school.

During many times of installing electricity for villages and schools, Mr. Liem saw that teachers still went to each house to encourage children to go to school, almost every teacher in the mountains did this. At that time, he thought, he needed to do something fun, attractive, to attract children to eagerly go to school. Therefore, Mr. Liem tried to bring movies to the mountains to show, the first "theater" was in Quang Nam, unexpectedly, when the movies were shown, the children were very excited. At that time, everyone knew that this not only attracted children, but it was also a necessary tool to support teaching and learning as well as help children understand more things outside the mountains.

Liem remembers, many times when asked, do you know what is on the other side of the mountain? The children would answer that it is a mountain. So when teachers download other rich content to show to students, the students will understand that this is real, the world that exists at the foot of the mountain. The new things that the children receive every day will create interest and motivation to go to school, to study so that they can approach the things they see.

Besides, now there are many teaching methods, rich lectures, with animations, images, and vivid sounds to help students remember and understand easily. With this device, teachers can download and apply it to their lectures. Learning while playing, playing while learning, teachers are also more relaxed, lectures are more complete, and students are also more receptive.

To run this projector, electricity is needed, so that is why Mr. Liem coordinated the implementation of both projects for schools without electricity. Each trip like that, the system is donated worth about 60 million VND. At the beginning, the funds were contributed by the brothers in the club, then they held street music nights and tea rooms to raise funds. Later, the program spread widely, many benefactors came to support and participate, so the club was fortunate to have the resources to maintain the projects.

After finishing this theater, the club is continuing to prepare for theater number 7, because many teachers have contacted for support. Mr. Liem was also lucky to meet friends with the same passion, so he also started working on theater number 8 and other power stations.

Mr. Ho Hoang Liem shared: “At first, I thought that Pink Smile would only operate for 10 years to accompany and realize the set goals. However, it has now lasted for 13 years and the electrical systems are still being installed. Perhaps, we will not set a goal for a few more years, we will just continue to do so, going up the mountain with the children...”
