In addition, the workshop was also attended by a delegation of leaders of the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism led by Mr. Kouamoua Vansy - Deputy Minister; a delegation of the Cambodian Ministry of Culture and Fine Arts led by Mr. Ek Buntha - Deputy Secretary of State.
Need for international film "studios"
In his opening speech, Mr. Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, emphasized the importance of combining the three fields of tourism, cinema and sports (three fields) in the national tourism development strategy. This workshop created a forum for delegates to meet and discuss development potential, and propose practical solutions to more effectively exploit the potential of tourism and cinema in Vietnam.
According to the Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the conference is divided into two official discussion sessions, including: tourism, cinema and sports: Building the future - long-term journey together; practical cooperation in tourism, cinema and sports". The conference will also feature the signing ceremony of a memorandum of understanding on cooperation between Binh Dinh province and film producers...
At the workshop, Ms. Nguyen Thi Hoai, Deputy Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Giang province, introduced the development of tourism and cinema of her province. According to her, Ha Giang is not only endowed with majestic and unique natural landscapes but also a land rich in culture, multi-ethnic with 19 ethnic groups living together with extremely rich lives. Thanks to that, Ha Giang is a land with mysterious and supernatural colors and stories expressed in the simple and innocent style of the ethnic groups in the mountains.
Ms. Hoai said that recently, thanks to cinema, Ha Giang has become known to many domestic and international tourists, who have visited and brought in large revenues for the locality. Since then, Ha Giang destinations have gradually been affirmed, winning many major destination awards in Asia.
At the event, Mr. Lam Hai Giang, Vice Chairman of Binh Dinh Provincial People's Committee, introduced to the guests the natural, landscape, cultural and historical potentials of Binh Dinh. According to Mr. Lam Hai Giang, the potential and potential of Binh Dinh is very large, but the film industry has only modestly exploited it. In particular, the historical and cultural stories and the ups and downs of the dynasties or the Tay Son army with many talented generals, the highlight of which is the military genius Quang Trung - Nguyen Hue. Or the cultural sediments of the dynasties, including Champa culture... all are great resources for great film works.
Through this, Mr. Giang hopes that experts and filmmakers will pay attention and help Binh Dinh to exploit its tourism and cinema potentials and become a world-class film studio, attracting international tourists and friends. Binh Dinh wishes to connect and cooperate with major domestic and international filmmakers and directors to produce films set in the land of "martial arts and literature".
At the event, many guests also proposed solutions to develop the film and tourism industries. Some suggested promoting international film festivals and creating a “package” to promote Vietnamese film studios to attract international filmmakers.
Vice President of Vovinam Federation Bach Ngoc Chien shared that the action film genre is very attractive in the world, it is necessary to create martial arts movie stars who are real martial artists and martial arts masters. He suggested that it is necessary to foster the mass sports movement to create film talents, especially in martial arts movies...
Screenwriter Dinh Thien Phuc said that Vietnam has 3 beautiful coastal cities like “fairies”: Hai Phong, Quy Nhon, Nha Trang… Of which, Quy Nhon and Hai Phong need to develop into places to annually organize major international film festivals. From here, it will create more forums for international filmmakers to come to Vietnam, cooperate and create major film products.
Passionate but lack of motivation
The second discussion session included directors, film producers, distributors and experts, such as: Charlie Nguyen, Phan Gia Nhat Linh, Luong Dinh Dung, Do Quang Minh, Aaron Toronto, Truong Ngoc Anh, Bui Quang Minh and Mr. Sirisak - a Thai cinema expert.
In session 2, guests focused on dissecting the practice of domestic cinema development and pointed out many problems and difficulties that Vietnamese cinema is facing.
Most opinions agree that most Vietnamese film producers face difficulties in terms of resources and funding. Many joint and cooperative programs with foreign countries face difficulties due to mechanisms and policies on refunds, tax refunds, information gathering, fieldwork, legal issues and infrastructure, etc.
In his presentation, Mr. Sirisak (Thai cinema expert) informed the conference that many film works in the land of "golden temples" bring "huge" revenue to this country.
Among them, some cinematic works such as: Lost in Thailand (2012), James Bond 007... have helped many destinations in the film scene in Thailand attract visitors over the past decade.
According to Mr. Sirisak, the latest Thai film, "How To Make Millions Before Grandma Dies," has been shown in 13 countries and has grossed a whopping $33.3 million. Of that, when shown in Vietnam, the film earned $2.2 million.
Mr. Sirisak emphasized the creative environment for directors, screenwriters, and film producers, saying that cinematographic works are artistic creations. He called on the audience not to be too strict, but to create conditions and allow directors and screenwriters to expand their imagination to create great works.
According to Mr. Sirisak, in Thailand, due to the good mechanism of support and cash refunds for film producers, many international film producers have been attracted to come and make films. In the country, localities in Thailand have set up funds to promote cinema from budget and socialized sources.
Need a mechanism to use budget to develop tourism and cinema
At the workshop, the leader of Phu Yen Provincial People's Committee proposed to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to soon make recommendations to the Government to clear bottlenecks, create mechanisms and policies for localities to use the budget to coordinate and support programs to exploit tourism, cinema and sports.
This person believes that in order to have a major film production that contributes to tourism and culture, the role of the state is needed for localities. In addition, it is necessary to pay attention to preserving cultural sites, relics, and landscapes to develop them into "film studios" for cinema...
