After the merger on December 1, 2024, according to Resolution No. 1239 of the National Assembly Standing Committee, Cuong Thinh commune has a natural land area of 2,146 hectares, with 1,313 households living in 10 villages. Meeting the criteria for building a new model rural area in 2024, the commune has a socio-economic infrastructure system that meets the needs of production and people's lives; the economy develops, employment and income of people are raised, the average per capita in 2024 reaches 60.67 million VND; the multidimensional poverty rate of the commune is reduced to 0.45%.
Secretary of the Commune Party Committee Pham Quang Chung said: "After the merger, the apparatus has now stabilized and come into operation. We have issued documents directing Party cells and villages to lead and guide people to focus on economic development based on the potential, strengths and traditional crops of the locality. People have developed facilities to raise chickens, fish, grow fruit trees, ornamental flowers, medicinal plants..."
In fact, the people of Cuong Thinh have made great changes in their economic activities. People have grown seedlings according to market demand and in the direction of goods. The fruit garden of Ms. Nguyen Thi Thu Ha's family in Ninh Phuc village is mainly planted with guava and grapefruit trees. After the flood caused by storm No. 3 at the end of September 2024, she and her husband promptly planted additional dead trees and stepped up care, so the grapefruit area and more than 200 guava trees have recovered for harvest.
Ms. Ha shared: "My family invested in a proactive irrigation system, focusing on care so that the trees can alternately flower and bear fruit. Thanks to that, my family sells guava all year round, earning an average of 500,000 - 600,000 VND per day from selling fruit. During the fruit season, I also squeeze the juice to meet the needs of culinary connoisseurs."
Ninh Phuc village has 210 households, of which about 50 households grow fruit trees, including the families of Ms. Le Thi Phuong, Pham Thi Hoa, Nguyen Hai Yen, Dao Thi Loan... which have been generating significant income. It is known that in the first 3 months of the year, Cuong Thinh people planted 2.5 hectares of new fruit trees, reaching 60% of the plan; bringing the total area of fruit trees to 85.6 hectares, with a harvested fruit output of 141 tons, of which the specialized area output is 32 tons.
Along with fruit trees, since the beginning of the year, Cuong Thinh people have basically completed sowing rice and various vegetables; planted over 116 hectares of spring forest, exploited 2,200 cubic meters of wood. At the same time, they focused on taking care of 333 hectares of cinnamon, harvesting 35 tons of dry bark; 22.8 hectares of tea, harvesting 40 tons of fresh buds; 56.5 hectares of velvet leaf yield harvested 20.5 tons, reaching 31.5% of the plan.
Notably, the velvet antler tree has become a valuable medicinal plant grown in the commune, bringing high economic efficiency. A typical example is Mr. Pham Ba Chien's family in Dam Hong village with an area of 10,000 m2 of velvet antler trees, generating an annual income of 350 - 400 million VND, creating regular jobs for 3 workers. The family is also an address providing seeds, technical guidance on planting and caring for, and consuming velvet antler trees for people in many localities.
Taking us to visit some economic models including livestock farming, Mr. Cao Van Quan - Chairman of the People's Committee of Cuong Thinh commune informed: "In the commune, there are many livestock farming models in the direction of goods, including dozens of chicken and pig farms that have done a good job of veterinary work, not allowing epidemics to occur, so maintaining a herd of 6,500 pigs and a herd of 114,500 poultry. People in the commune also developed an aquaculture area of 32.3 hectares, since the beginning of the year, people have supplied the market with 41 tons of fish meat...".
To clarify, we visited the cage fish farming model of Mr. Nguyen Anh Tuan's family in Dong Lan village. Mr. Tuan has experienced many jobs for a living, including nearly ten years of fish farming.
With the experience he gained, he boldly rented the lake surface area and invested nearly 300 million VND to raise fish in cages. He released the fish in September 2024 and has now harvested the first crop.
"Initially, I invested in 8 cages to raise tilapia and grass carp; I paid attention to care techniques, and the water source here is suitable so the quality of the fish meat is highly appreciated by buyers. I will try to invest to have about 20 cages in the near future" - Mr. Tuan expressed his confidence in the direction of his family's economic development.
After nearly 5 months of operation of the commune merger apparatus, new steps in economic development have strengthened the confidence of Cuong Thinh people to continue to focus their intelligence on local development, contributing to building a new, rich and happy rural area in the coming time.
