(Dan Tri) - According to the Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City, social work in Vietnam has begun to professionalize and now exists as a legitimate profession.
On the afternoon of November 6, the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City held a conference to review 1 year of implementing the signing of a cooperation agreement between the Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs with the City Academy of Officials and universities on the Program for developing social work in Ho Chi Minh City until 2030.

After 1 year of implementation, the coordination between units has achieved many results such as: Organizing activities to celebrate "Vietnam Social Work Day"; organizing a national scientific conference on the topic "Professionalization of Social Work Services"; training to improve professional qualifications, skills, and social work skills for 500 officers and civil servants; building a process to introduce students to practice and intern at units managed by the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs...
At the conference, delegates discussed experiences and good practices in the field of social work; acknowledged the positive contributions of social workers...
On this occasion, the leaders of the units also officially signed the Procedure for receiving interns and practice students at social assistance facilities managed by the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs according to the cooperation agreement between the Department and the schools.

Speaking at the Conference, Mr. Le Van Thinh, Director of the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs of Ho Chi Minh City, affirmed that the cooperation of the units has contributed significantly to promoting the development of the social work sector in the city.
He acknowledged the outstanding achievements in communicating the role and position of social work; consolidating and developing the network of social work service providers... These results have contributed to building an advanced social security system in the city.
Mr. Le Van Thinh said: "Social work plays a very important role in life, and has been considered a professional activity in many countries for centuries. In fact, social work has begun to be professionalized and now exists as a legitimate profession."
On October 4, 2022, the People's Committee of Ho Chi Minh City issued Decision No. 3359/QD-UBND implementing the Plan to implement the Program for developing social work in Ho Chi Minh City for the period up to 2030.
The program's goal is to continue promoting the development of social work in all sectors and levels, in accordance with the city's socio-economic development conditions in each stage; ensuring raising awareness of the whole society about social work.
In addition, the program also sets out the goal of building a team of cadres, civil servants, employees and social work collaborators with sufficient quantity and quality requirements, associated with the development of a system of facilities providing social work services at all levels, contributing to the construction of an advanced social security system in the city.
In order for the Social Work Development Program in the city to be effective and put into practice, the City People's Committee assigned the Department of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs to be the standing agency, responsible for coordinating with departments, branches, People's Committees of districts, Thu Duc city and related units to develop an implementation plan.
