Mr. Pham Tan Cong, Chairman of VCCI, Head of the Steering Committee of the CSI 2023 Program, spoke at the announcement ceremony.

2023 is the 8th consecutive year that the Program for Assessment and Announcement of Sustainable Enterprises in Vietnam (CSI) is organized by VCCI under the direction of the Government, in coordination with the Ministry of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, especially with the participation of the Central Economic Committee in the Program Steering Committee from this year. This demonstrates the prestige and spread of the CSI Program.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Pham Tan Cong, Chairman of VCCI, Head of the Steering Committee of the CSI 2023 Program shared: “The goal of supporting and promoting the building of a sustainable business community has been persistently pursued by VCCI for two decades. With the coordination of ministries, branches, agencies and domestic and international organizations, VCCI has pioneered the development and implementation of many programs, projects and activities to raise awareness, provide training, consult and share knowledge, encourage, motivate and support the business community to practice responsible and sustainable business."

According to the Chairman of VCCI, the stability and sustainable growth in production and business activities of the enterprises honored at the CSI 2023 Announcement Ceremony is proof of the right choice when they have committed themselves to pioneering the application of sustainability criteria in all three aspects of environment, society, and governance (ESG) for the long-term business strategy of the enterprise. "Only commitment and action according to a sustainable strategy will help enterprises overcome difficulties and challenges to develop, prosper, and create lasting happiness," Mr. Pham Tan Cong emphasized.

Speaking at the program, Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, Politburo member, Head of the Central Economic Commission, highly appreciated the initiative of VCCI in coordinating with relevant units to organize the CSI Program over the past 8 years. The Head of the Central Economic Commission also shared that Resolution No. 41-NQ/TW on building and promoting the role of Vietnamese entrepreneurs in the new period, issued by the Politburo last October, emphasized and paid more attention to the criteria for assessing the growth in quality of entrepreneurs with vision, intelligence, ethics, entrepreneurial spirit, legitimate enrichment, dynamism, creativity, advanced management capacity, compliance with the law, ethics, business culture with national identity; social responsibility, and awareness of environmental protection. These are the criteria demonstrating the sustainable development of enterprises, specified in the CSI Index developed by VCCI.

Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, Politburo member, Head of the Central Economic Commission, spoke at the announcement ceremony.

Mr. Tran Tuan Anh suggested that Vietnamese enterprises and entrepreneurs need to build a sustainable business culture, linking their success and long-term growth with the sustainable benefits of the community, society and environment. At the same time, it is necessary to further promote proactiveness, creativity, flexibility, and cooperation to create added value for all parties; as well as proactively follow and comply with the development guidelines and policies of the Party, State and Government, thereby finding new directions and new opportunities, anticipating and promptly grasping trends, helping to create competitive advantages for the enterprises themselves.

Also at the announcement ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh, Vice President of VCCI, Chairman of VBCSD, Deputy Head of the Steering Committee of the CSI 2023 Program once again emphasized that transforming business thinking to sustainable business is something that businesses need to do for their own benefit. Mr. Vinh encouraged businesses in the Top 100 Sustainable Businesses 2023 to spread and share the CSI 2023 Index to businesses and partners in the value chain, to build a "sustainable" and "solid" business ecosystem, helping to improve the competitiveness of businesses, better consolidate their position in the value chain of large businesses and thereby develop stronger and more sustainably.

Mr. Nguyen Quang Vinh said that in the coming time, VCCI will coordinate with agencies in the Program Steering Committee to continue upgrading the Index to become more contemporary and updated, providing more effective support for businesses; as well as working with Business Advisory Councils in ASEAN to spread the Index to reach the international level and especially after carefully consulting the opinions of businesses, VCCI will work with relevant agencies to make the CSI Index one of the national standards for widespread application in the business community nationwide.

Representing the honored enterprises at the announcement ceremony, Mr. Binu Jacob, General Director of Nestlé Vietnam, co-chairman of VBCSD, said that in recent years, more and more enterprises have been listed in the CSI 10, with many good practices in sustainable development. Thus, it can be seen that the business community has made very positive contributions to the country's green growth. "Being voted in the CSI 100 list is a proud recognition of our continuous efforts in implementing our long-term investment commitment and for the sustainable development of Vietnam. We are proud to always be a pioneer and strive for a greener and more sustainable future," said Mr. Binu Jacob.

Mr. Tran Tuan Anh, Politburo member, Head of the Central Economic Commission and Mr. Pham Tan Cong, Chairman of VCCI awarded certificates to enterprises.

This year's program has notable innovations such as fundamentally improving the Corporate Sustainability Index (CSI) - a tool to assess the level of sustainable development of enterprises participating in the Program; improving the evaluation and appraisal process in a more scientific, transparent and rigorous direction; expanding the participation of representatives of press agencies in the Council for Evaluation of Sustainable Enterprises. These new points have contributed to affirming that the Top 100 Enterprises honored at the CSI 2023 Announcement Ceremony have been evaluated, appraised and considered very carefully and transparently.

From nearly 500 business profiles registered to participate - of which nearly 25% were new businesses participating for the first time, the Program Secretariat selected 146 qualified profiles for the Evaluation Council to independently score on the online software. At the same time, a strict and transparent appraisal process was conducted before submitting to the Steering Committee for decision on the 100 most typical sustainable businesses to be honored at the Announcement Ceremony. Of which, in the Top 10 sustainable businesses in the fields of trade - services and production, the proportion of foreign-invested enterprises accounted for 40%; Vietnamese enterprises accounted for 60%, of which 25% were enterprises with dominant state capital.

In addition to praising the main category of Sustainable Enterprises, the Program also evaluates and selects pioneering enterprises that perform well in two thematic categories: Implementing a circular economy, reducing carbon emissions and building diverse and equitable values.

Entering its 8th year, the CSI 2023 Index was developed to assess the level of sustainable development of enterprises in the following aspects: economic efficiency, corporate governance, environment, labor, and society. Of the 130 indicators of CSI 2023, up to 63% of the indicators are related to legal compliance requirements, while indicators related to sustainable business initiatives account for 37%. This demonstrates that the CSI Index is very familiar and easy to apply to all enterprises, of all sizes and types. At the same time, it shows that by simply complying with legal regulations, enterprises, regardless of size, can build a solid foundation for sustainable development in general and be easily appreciated in the CSI Program in particular.

Developed and developed by VCCI since 2014 and launched in 2016, the CSI Index is also the first index in Vietnam to support businesses in implementing sustainable corporate governance. When applying the CSI Index, businesses need to review their sustainable development activities, self-synthesize information according to the instructions, from which they can self-assess their overall "health", as well as the impacts created by business activities, thereby building appropriate action plans to improve weaknesses, promote strengths, and at the same time do a better job of preparing and reporting information, helping to attract investment more effectively and sustainably.
