Accordingly, on the same afternoon, Cho Ray Hospital (HCMC) said that it had recently received about 5 cases of people panicking and coming to the Emergency Department after receiving a call informing them that their child was hospitalized in an emergency.
According to MSc. Le Minh Hien, Head of the Social Work Department of Cho Ray Hospital, at around 9:30 a.m., a parent from Go Vap District burst into tears when she came to the Emergency Department, looking for her child after receiving information that her child had an accident and was undergoing emergency surgery there. However, after checking, the doctor confirmed that there was no patient with the same name as her child. After contacting the teacher, she learned that her child was still studying normally at school.
Another case also received a call from a person with a Northern accent, giving the exact name and information of the child, saying that the child fell down the stairs at school and was being treated at Cho Ray Hospital. Believing that this was a notification from the school, the mother immediately went to the hospital. However, when she said she would be there, the caller immediately hung up.
Another parent received a call informing him that his child had suffered a soft tissue injury while playing at school, and asked to transfer 30-40 million VND for urgent surgery. Worried and suspicious, he went directly to the hospital to look for his child but was confirmed that there was no patient with the same name as his child.
Mr. Hien emphasized that in emergency cases, Cho Ray Hospital always prioritizes saving people first, and administrative procedures will be completed later. Therefore, people need to be absolutely vigilant against scams related to emergency care at the hospital.
Mr. Hien recommends that when receiving similar calls, people should stay calm and not transfer money as requested. At the same time, verify information through the school or call directly to the hotline of Cho Ray Hospital to check the situation and be highly vigilant against strange phone numbers and requests for urgent money transfers.
