(NLDO) – Banks are urgently supporting customers to complete biometric authentication before January 1, 2025 to avoid having their online transactions suspended.
On the weekend of December 29, some state-owned commercial banks such as VietinBank, Vietcombank, BIDV, and Agribank remained open to support customers in updating biometric data, avoiding interruptions in online transactions after January 1, 2025.

Regarding specific figures, according to Mr. Pham Anh Tuan, as of December 20, the banking industry had over 84.5 million customers registered to use online accounts, of which 61.5 million customers had performed biometric authentication.
After January 1, 2025, customers who have not updated their biometrics will have their online payment transactions stopped.
At VietinBank, Mr. Tran Cong Quynh Lan, Deputy General Director, said that currently about 86% of VietinBank's customers have completed biometric authentication. VietinBank previously required customers to authenticate biometrics when making online financial transactions, which is an earlier application than the regulation.
A representative of Vietcombank said that more than 9.7 million customers of this bank have completed updating biometric data.
Many state-owned commercial banks open weekend transactions to support customers with biometric authentication
Not only open for transactions on weekends, many commercial banks such as ACB, VPBank, BVBank, TPBank, Nam A Bank... also implement a series of incentive programs, giving gifts, cash, increasing interest rates or free opening of beautiful account numbers when customers authenticate biometrically.
According to the State Bank, by October 25, the entire banking industry had 48 million customer records that had been biometrically verified via chip-embedded ID cards or VneID. By the end of September 2024, the number of bank cards in circulation reached more than 157.1 million cards, an increase of 11.68% over the same period last year.
