In the 7th game against Iran, the Vietnamese chess team had a notable change when 15-year-old player Bang Gia Huy was chosen to play at table number 4, replacing Tran Tuan Minh. In the previous 2 consecutive games, Tran Tuan Minh lost and was under some pressure, so the Vietnamese team made a change at the last table, unfortunately this did not bring about any results.

On table 1, Le Quang Liem (elo 2,741) held the black pieces (going later) and shared points with the main player of the Iranian team, Parham Maghsoodloo (elo 2,723). On table 1, Nguyen Ngoc Truong Son (elo 2,633) successfully drew with Amin Tabatabaei (elo 2,714). On table 3, Le Tuan Minh (elo 2,564) also drew with Bardiya Daneshar (elo 2,598). However, on table 4, Bang Gia Huy (elo 2,425) could not create a surprise when he lost to Pouya Idani (elo 2,599). Therefore, the Vietnamese chess team lost to Iran with a score of 1.5-2.5.
Vietnam chess team suffers first defeat at Olympiad 2024
Having their unbeaten streak broken, the Vietnamese chess team dropped to 9th place with 5 wins, 1 draw, and 1 loss. In game 8, the Vietnamese team will face the 6th seeded team from Norway. In which, Le Quang Liem will most likely compete with the player currently ranked 1st on the World Chess Federation's rankings, Carlsen (elo 2,832).
In the women's team event, the Vietnamese team is on the comeback trail with a 3.5-0.5 victory over the Czech Republic. After 7 games, Pham Le Thao Nguyen and her teammates ranked 17th with 5 wins and 2 losses. In game 8, the Vietnamese women's chess team will meet the Malaysian team.
