The Ba Lai 8 Bridge construction project will be completed after 2 years of construction, contributing to promoting the development of the marine economy in Ben Tre province and neighboring coastal localities. This is a major traffic project of vital importance, creating a breakthrough to meet the goal of promoting development to the East of the provinces through which the road passes.
Mr. Cao Minh Duc, Director of the Department of Transport of Ben Tre province, said: The Ba Lai 8 bridge project has a total investment of up to 2,255 billion VND, divided into three bidding packages. The bridge is 527.6m long with a modern design, meeting the HL.93 load standard, the bridge is 22.5m wide, and the access road is 12.37km long, the road surface includes 4 car lanes and 2 mixed lanes. According to the Chairman of Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee Tran Ngoc Tam, the Ba Lai 8 bridge construction project, located in the coastal road corridor of Ben Tre province, is not only a traffic project but also a symbol of great expectations in the socio-economic development of the locality. In particular, it is the development of expanding space to the East of Ben Tre province in particular and the Mekong Delta region in general.
"When completed, the project will help the province realize 52 km of coastal road, opening up a new economic corridor for the province, which is the marine economy, especially serving the socio-economic development in the eastern direction of the province according to the Provincial Planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, Ben Tre is oriented to develop to the East. Ben Tre considers this an opportunity to realize its aspiration to encroach on the sea to get rich", Chairman of Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee Tran Ngoc Tam affirmed.
Identifying transportation as the lifeblood of the economy, the groundbreaking of Ba Lai 8 Bridge and the project to build a coastal road connecting Ben Tre province with Tien Giang and Tra Vinh provinces aims to realize the East-oriented development mindset that Ben Tre province is expecting.
According to Dr. Tran Huu Hiep, Mekong Delta Economic Expert, the commencement of construction of Ba Lai 8 Bridge and the project to build the Eastern Coastal Road of the Mekong Delta is necessary.
Because, Ba Lai 8 bridge is an important transport infrastructure project in Ben Tre province, part of the local transport development strategy, an important link connecting the coastal corridor. From there, it creates a new development space, strengthening the connection between Ben Tre and coastal provinces along the axis of Ho Chi Minh City - Tien Giang - Ben Tre - Tra Vinh - Soc Trang - Bac Lieu and Ca Mau.
Chairman of Ben Tre Provincial People's Committee Tran Ngoc Tam said: Ba Lai 8 Bridge and the coastal road of Ben Tre province, when completed, will contribute to completing the road traffic network, modernizing the province's traffic system, and conveniently connecting with the regional and national traffic system.
The road will also open up development space for the eastern region of Ben Tre province; creating favorable conditions for attracting investment and developing key economic sectors such as industry, renewable energy, clean energy, aquaculture, exploitation and processing of seafood in the direction of high technology.
Mr. Dao Ngoc Thanh, Party Secretary - Chairman of the Board of Directors of Vietnam Construction and Import-Export Joint Stock Corporation (VINACONEX) said that the Ba Lai 8 bridge construction investment project is one of the key transport projects in the medium-term public investment plan using the central budget for the period 2021 - 2025.
This is a project located in the coastal road corridor, playing an important role in synchronously connecting Ben Tre province with Tien Giang and Tra Vinh. After completion, the Ba Lai 8 bridge project will contribute to completing the regional traffic infrastructure, enhancing trade, attracting investment capital and creating a great driving force for the development of marine economic zones, industry, high-tech agriculture and tourism, contributing significantly to promoting socio-economic development for Ben Tre and neighboring provinces.
At the groundbreaking ceremony of the Ba Lai 8 bridge project on October 2, 2024, Permanent Deputy Prime Minister Nguyen Hoa Binh welcomed Ben Tre as a province in the Mekong Delta taking the lead in implementing and constructing the first coastal road in the Southwest region.
According to the Deputy Prime Minister, this is the road connecting Ben Tre with the coastal provinces of the Mekong Delta, breaking the isolation, helping the infrastructure to connect synchronously with the highways; shortening the travel distance to Ho Chi Minh City by a few dozen kilometers, reducing the load on National Highway 1, thereby significantly reducing logistics costs.
With this road, Ben Tre can reclaim up to 50,000 hectares of land. For neighboring provinces such as Tien Giang and Tra Vinh, the project also brings similar opportunities. From there, it opens up opportunities for strong socio-economic development, improving the material and spiritual life of the people.
As a necessary driving force, the groundbreaking of Ba Lai 8 Bridge and the launch of the first coastal road in the Southwest region is not only a story about building inter-regional transport into a "silk road", but also a testament to the determination of the local government, marking an important turning point in the development of transport infrastructure in Ben Tre province.
