Beautiful girl pays to find husband

How much would you pay to meet the love of your life? For one woman, it's as much as $2,000. A woman in Singapore recently posted that she would pay $2,000 Singapore dollars ($1,500 US) to anyone who could successfully matchmake her.

Bella Dai, who was born in Chengdu, China, has lived in Singapore since she was 15. She shared details about her bonuses and dating criteria on her Instagram account (@bellzdai) in February.

In her post, the 29-year-old wrote: “I am looking for a husband,” then listed criteria such as a straightforward man, living in Singapore, aged 25-42; with solid expertise in work, interested in health and exercise, ready to face serious important conversations, and open to self-discovery and development.

It's worth noting that Bella will only pay the matchmaker if the relationship is committed to lasting at least 6 months.

Bella Dai's post attracted the attention of the online community.

Bella Dai, who is now the founder of a health care company, said that a conversation with a friend inspired her to apply business principles to her personal life, which is why she posted an article online looking for a husband.

"I realized that the difficulty we have when looking for a relationship is the process. None of my friends are on dating apps because people's intentions are so unpredictable. If I were a product, how would I market myself? How would I get people to know me? I want people to know that I'm available and looking for a partner."

Bella Dai said her longest relationship lasted four years, while her most recent relationship ended in 2020.

The S$2,000 reward was considered impressive enough to attract attention but not so big that it would make someone act recklessly for the money, she said.

Since launching her husband-finding campaign, she has received five referrals from friends, along with Instagram or LinkedIn profiles of potential dates, two of whom were serious, and she has gone on a date with one of the three.

Bella added that using the bonus had a clear advantage over hiring a matchmaker or using a dating app. Friends who knew her well were also better able to identify people who matched her preferences.

“I work in wellness, yoga and spirituality, so I need someone with an open mind to hang out with me,” she said.

While such an approach may not be for everyone, Bella Dai believes that those who are also looking for love should consider the best way to let those around them know that they are serious about finding a partner.

Bella Dai is among a growing number of young Singaporeans who are disillusioned with dating apps and have little trust in other online singles groups due to a lack of user transparency and questionable business models. This has led to a rise in alternatives such as speed dating and blind dating programs.

A 2024 YouGov survey found that Tinder users in Singapore are more likely to go on casual dates than serious dates.

In addition, many people are now more vigilant because there are many online romance scams.

Bella Dai is not the first person to use a cash bonus to find love. In 2024, the New York Times reported that an American tech worker, Anatoliy Zaslavskiy, offered a dating bonus of US$100,000 (S$134,000), paid over four years, to anyone who introduced him to a potential partner.
