Dear Ambassador, what is the significance of President Joe Biden's visit to Vietnam - US relations?
Since the two countries normalized relations in 1995, every sitting US president has visited Vietnam. Now President Joe Biden continues this fine “tradition”.
What is particularly meaningful is that the visit takes place on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the comprehensive partnership between the two countries (2013-2023). With the comprehensive and extensive development of the bilateral relationship, President Biden's visit will create more momentum to bring the bilateral relationship to a new height. This is the spirit that General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and President Biden agreed on during their high-level phone call on March 29.
For Vietnam, welcoming President Biden on a state visit is a contribution to implementing a foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification, multilateralization, and comprehensive and deep international integration.
I believe that the important results of the visit will practically serve the interests of the people of the two countries, contribute to the relationship between the United States and ASEAN, as well as peace, cooperation and development in the region and the world.
Could you share the content and highlights of this visit?
During the visit, President Biden will have important talks and meetings with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and senior leaders of our Party and State; and activities with businesses and people.
The two sides will review the comprehensive partnership in all fields and set out orientations for the relationship in the coming time, focusing on cooperation in science and technology, economy, trade and investment, people-to-people exchange, and overcoming the consequences of war. This will open a new chapter in Vietnam-US relations, while creating more favorable objective conditions for Vietnam to gradually assert a higher position in the regional and global value chain.
The two sides also plan to jointly organize activities to exchange war relics and meet technology businesses. On this occasion, the two sides are expected to sign many important economic agreements and contracts that could be worth billions of dollars.
In his congratulatory message on the 10th anniversary of the Vietnam-US comprehensive partnership, Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son considered this milestone as “an opportunity for the two sides to work together and identify concrete steps towards a brighter future.” Could you share your expectations for bilateral relations in the coming time?
I am very optimistic about the future of bilateral relations based on the progress and achievements that the two countries have made in the past; the potential and aspirations of the people of each country; the new cooperation frameworks that the leaders of Vietnam and the United States will create during President Biden's upcoming visit...
I believe that like the 28 years since normalization and 10 years of comprehensive partnership, what the two countries will cooperate on in the future will positively contribute to Vietnam's development goals set by the 13th National Party Congress for the very important milestones of 2030 and 2045.
History has also proven that when the Vietnam-US relationship develops positively and stably, it will not only serve the practical interests of the people of the two countries, but also be in line with the trend of peace, cooperation and development, contributing positively to the development of the relationship between the United States and ASEAN, as well as maintaining stability and common prosperity in the entire region and the world.
Thank you very much Ambassador!
