Fans of HIEUTHUHAI and Soobin have been arguing for the past few days. This shows that fans are very passionate and are ready to attack other fan groups to protect their idols.

Anh trai vu ngan cong gai and Anh trai “say hi” aired at the same time, bringing male artists to the market but at the same time unintentionally pushing them to the scale, subject to comparison throughout the past time. HIEUTHUHAI in Anh trai “say hi” and Soobin in Anh trai vu ngan cong gai are the two most prominent brothers in each program in terms of media coverage and fan base. Right now, they are also the focus of the fan communities of both sides.

Fandom HIEUTHUHAI and Soobin fight

Although they have always operated separately and never clashed with each other, recently the fan communities of Soobin and HIEUTHUHAI suddenly had a conflict. They argued fiercely on many different social media platforms. The incident originated from an event that gathered many stars in the music industry, attracting much attention were Soobin and HIEUTHUHAI. In a poster designed by a showbiz Fanpage, HIEUTHUHAI was placed in the center instead of Soobin or other artists such as Chi Pu, Hurrykng...

The incident seemed very small and not official information, but it sparked a "keyboard war" between two fan communities. In particular, Soobin's fans were upset and thought that considering his age, career and achievements, this male singer deserved the center position. On the contrary, some fans argued that HIEUTHUHAI, as one of the hottest rappers today, was in the most prominent position. It was not until the event's official Fanpage posted a poster with Soobin standing in the middle and HIEUTHUHAI and Chi Pu on both sides that the controversy temporarily subsided.

However, another incident broke out, causing the war between the two fandoms to heat up once again. Accordingly, Superstar is a new song performed in Anh trai vu ngan cong gai. This song was composed by Soobin and Kay Tran. After that, some details in Superstar causing listeners to suspect that Soobin used the song to "diss" his junior. Specifically, in the song, Soobin used the phrase "baby boo" which is considered typical when referring to HIEUTHUHAI. Babyboo is the name of HIEUTHUHAI's rumored girlfriend and the male rapper also mentioned it in a song performed on Anh trai "say hi".

Once again, the incident is just a somewhat unfounded speculation from a segment of the audience and is not worth discussing. However, the controversy still broke out on social networks. Attacks between fan communities are actually very difficult to avoid in any field, especially in idol culture. Here, fans will always try to give their favorite singers the best. But the downside is that they are willing to argue, sometimes to the extreme, to defend their idols.

The Dark Side of Idol Culture

With the explosion of the two big brother shows, idol culture is growing in Vietnam. The excessive enthusiasm of the audience has been mentioned many times as one of the most worrying negative aspects of Kpop, where idol culture appears and develops most strongly.

One of the most famous fandom wars in the early days of Kpop was between fans of HOT and Sechsikes. Both groups were very popular at the time and had large, loyal fandoms. Fans of the two groups would often meet, argue, and even fight right before award ceremonies that their idols attended. During this time, the fandom managers even gained fame as Kpop idols. They led entire fandoms to fight against other fandoms to protect their idols. This fan war even became legendary and was recreated in a popular Korean drama Reply 1997 .

There are countless reasons for fandoms to compete with each other, for example, SONE (SNSD's fandom) and Blackjacks (2NE1's fans) argued for a long time because these two groups came back at the same time, leading to competition on music shows, award ceremonies, etc. At that time, SNSD released Mr.Mr and 2NE1 has Comeback Home . So these two songs are often nominated for awards on weekend music shows.

Or, with SONE and ONCE (TWICE's fandom), the controversy arose because TWICE has a 9-member lineup similar to their seniors. Therefore, TWICE is always attacked for "copying" or copying SM Entertainment's group. And when seeing their idols being attacked, TWICE fans also do not let it go.

The most common reason for fandoms to attack each other is when they debuted at the same time and compete for the number one spot. There is a huge fan war going on between Blinks (BlackPink fans) and ARMY (BTS). The public may have heard about the excessive tweets or conflicts between these two fandoms. The reason for the conflict is said to come from the fact that each fandom wants to assert that their idol is the most successful and representative of 3rd generation Kpop.

And in reality, not only between fans of groups but also between fans of members of the same group can have arguments. Similar to the case of Soobin's fans and HIEUTHUHAI, there have been many times when Kpop fans "went to war" because their favorite member was not allowed to stand in the center or was discriminated against.

A typical example is the case of the group ITZY. Member Ryujin was initially announced by JYP Entertainment as the center of the group. That means she would always be in the center of activities. However, Ryujin's fans later discovered that JYP did not keep their word. Instead of letting Ryujin be in the center, the company favored other members. Therefore, fans between the members began to have conflicts.

Speaking about the growing fanaticism of idols, Kwak Keum Joo, a psychology professor at Seoul National University, said: "People, especially teenagers in Korea, are lacking opportunities to participate in cultural activities. I believe this is one of the important factors leading to the sasaeng phenomenon."

“Hallyu has clearly raised national prestige, as the case of boy band BTS shows, but it has also given rise to sasaeng (crazy fans) and obsession, which I consider the downside of the hallyu craze,” he said.
