The Organizing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival (HIFF) has just sent an announcement to domestic and international partners and filmmakers.
The announcement stated that 2025 will have many important events for Vietnam and Ho Chi Minh City such as: The 95th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of Vietnam (February 3, 1930 - February 3, 2025); The 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025); The 135th birthday of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890 - May 19, 2025); The 80th anniversary of the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam (September 2, 1945 - September 2, 2025); In coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the 24th Vietnam Film Festival will be held... These are events of profound historical significance, marking important milestones in Vietnam's journey of development and integration with the world.

"Ho Chi Minh City is honored to be the host of a number of major political events in the country. Given the role, scale, and importance of the events, the city needs to focus all its efforts on organizing activities that ensure the set goals and requirements. Therefore, after careful consideration, the HIFF Organizing Committee would like to announce that the Ho Chi Minh City International Film Festival will not be held in 2025," the announcement said.
According to the HIFF Organizing Committee, the event will be held again in 2026 with quality programs and activities, bringing better experiences to filmmakers, partners and audiences. Specific time and information related to HIFF 2026 will be updated soon on official information channels.
The HIFF Organizing Committee also pledged to continue its efforts to build HIFF into a prestigious brand to effectively contribute to the development of Ho Chi Minh City as one of the leading creative centers in the region; at the same time, play an important role in promoting Vietnamese culture and arts to the world .
The first HIFF in 2024 will feature more than 300 works and film projects from 29 countries and territories, with more than 200 international and Vietnamese guests. The Philippine film “The Gospel of the Beast” won the Best Southeast Asian Feature Film Award - Golden Star.
The Ho Chi Minh City Outstanding Film Award went to “Song Lang” (Vietnam); the Jury’s Choice Film and Jury’s Choice Short Film awards went to two films: “Last Shadow at First Light” (The Night Before Dawn) in collaboration with Singapore, Japan, Slovenia, and “Alien 0089” (Strange Game) from Chile and Argentina.
