Properly preparing and freezing ingredients helps parents prepare weaning food for their children quickly, conveniently, and with guaranteed nutrition.
Nutritionist Do Thi Lan, Tam Anh General Hospital, Hanoi, suggests some tips to help mothers prepare quick, nutritious weaning food for their children.
Use frozen broth cubes
Mom takes the time to prepare the broth in advance, then stores and preserves it in the freezer. This method helps to prepare food faster and more conveniently.
Some mothers have the habit of using bone broth to cook porridge for their children. However, according to expert Lan, bone broth can lead to bloating and indigestion. Mothers should use typical dishes available during Tet such as chicken broth, boiled vegetables with natural sweetness and rich in nutrients.
Prepare food pellets
In addition to broth, mothers can prepare vegetable balls and meat, fish, shrimp... to prepare weaning meals for children. Mothers choose seasonal vegetables and tubers to make provisions.
For protein, you can freeze meat, fish, shrimp, beef, chicken... Grind the meat, let it cool and divide it into trays or boxes similar to making vegetable balls. Shrimp and fish need to be cleaned of shells, bones and skin before freezing.

Processing flour, rice porridge
For babies who eat rice powder, mothers can buy pre-ground rice powder, cook it with broth, vegetable balls, meat balls or fish that have been frozen in advance. For babies who eat porridge, mothers should cook a pot of white porridge in advance, grind it according to the baby's level of roughness, then let it cool and store it in the refrigerator for 2-3 days. At mealtime, mothers can cook it again with a little broth and the food balls that have been prepared in advance.
Baby's meals should be cooked in sufficient quantity, freshly cooked and eaten immediately, to avoid the baby not finishing and reusing for the next meal. Ensure the baby and caregiver wash their hands before and after eating, and keep the kitchen clean.
Freezing baby food must be done hygienically and separately from uncooked food. Food that has been thawed should not be refrozen because it can be contaminated with bacteria. Mothers need to choose safe food and pay attention to the expiration date.
