Focus on developing raw materials for processing

Việt NamViệt Nam09/03/2024

Effectively implementing the conversion of crop structure, localities with suitable terrain, climate and soil have paid attention to and encouraged people to develop commodity crops, serving processing such as cassava, pineapple, tea... Thereby, contributing to the formation and development of sustainable raw material areas for production enterprises and increasing income for people.

Focus on developing raw materials for processing Passion fruit area in Tri Nang commune (Lang Chanh) is invested by T9 Agricultural Import-Export Company Limited to link according to the value chain.

In the western districts of Thanh Hoa, cassava is no longer strange, because this is a crop that contributes significantly to the fight against hunger and poverty for the people. Currently, cassava output in the province mainly supplies 5 cassava starch processing factories and facilities such as: Ba Thuoc cassava starch processing factory, Nhu Xuan agricultural and forestry products export processing factory, Phuc Thinh cassava starch processing factory... In recent years, cassava starch factories in Thanh Hoa have all boosted production, business, improved product quality, sought orders and aimed at export. Therefore, Ngoc Lac, Thuong Xuan, Nhu Xuan, Cam Thuy, Ba Thuoc districts... have encouraged people to stabilize raw material areas as well as implement measures to improve cassava quality to supply to processing factories.

As one of the major cassava material areas, in the 2023-2024 crop year, Nhu Xuan district has about 2,112 hectares of crops. Although the production area is large, the economic efficiency is not high, leading to a decreasing trend in the planting area. Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Nhu Xuan district, Le Tien Dat, said: With the current average yield of 18.2 tons/ha, cassava growers have not yet exploited their potential because the cassava cultivation area is mainly on a steep slope, and over many years the soil has been eroded, leading to poor soil and poor nutrition. In addition, due to long-term cultivation, cassava has been infected with many diseases, especially mosaic disease, causing productivity to decrease. Many households have converted part of the cassava cultivation area to other crops with fewer pests and diseases, and more stable productivity.

Faced with that reality, in order to sustainably develop the area of raw cassava and ensure the source of raw materials for processing activities, the district has encouraged people to intercrop with other suitable crops; support the transfer of new intensive farming techniques to people; introduce new cassava varieties that are resistant to pests and diseases and have high starch content into production. Currently, most of the cassava growing areas in the area are linked with production and product consumption by enterprises. Communes with large growing areas are Xuan Hoa, Thuong Ninh, Yen Cat town...

It is known that in Nhu Xuan district, attention is also paid to developing raw material crops such as 167 hectares of tea, 10 hectares of green hemp, 53 hectares of mango, passion fruit... Most of the area of raw material crops is currently growing well and meeting the demand for raw material purchases of enterprises. In addition to expanding the area, the district also encourages and supports people to apply science and technology in production, developing raw material areas to ensure high standards and quality.

In order to develop raw material sources that ensure quality and food safety for processing activities, in recent times, localities in the province have continued to form and expand concentrated, large-scale agricultural production areas such as high-quality rice, sweet corn, safe vegetables, fruit trees, tea, medicinal herbs, aquaculture, etc. At the same time, they have continuously developed production areas according to VietGAP and organic standards, etc. From there, they have formed and developed production areas associated with processing and product consumption to attract businesses to invest in refined and deep processing; building a production linkage model according to a closed value chain.

Currently, there have been many successful value chain linkage models such as: T9 Agricultural Export Company has linked up to build raw material areas for mango and passion fruit; pineapple processing factories have linked up to purchase products for raw pineapple areas... and 7 rice processing factories, forestry processing factories and vegetable, fruit and food processing facilities. Along with that, cooperatives and production facilities have invested in processing to diversify agricultural products.

Not only achieving high economic efficiency, solving the bottleneck of "good harvest, low price", in response to the requirements of enterprises, the area of planting trees for processing is mostly concentrated, in line with the orientation of agricultural development associated with processing of the province. Therefore, in the coming time, localities need to encourage people to accumulate and concentrate land to form large-scale production areas, grow trees that meet the needs of purchasing enterprises, apply science and technology to ensure productivity and good quality. In addition, pay attention to attracting enterprises to invest in developing agriculture in chains, linking production with processing...
