In his concluding remarks at the conference, the Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that the city will gradually concretize the contents of the development cooperation program with 13 provinces and cities in the Mekong Delta and is determined to implement it. First of all, in the field of transportation, the two sides discussed the Ho Chi Minh City - Can Tho railway, along with a number of other contents such as coastal roads, economic corridors from Ho Chi Minh City to Long An, Dong Thap, An Giang, Kien Giang and air routes.

"HCMC will be responsible for inviting consultants to study the contents thoroughly, although the cost is very high. After the results are available, HCMC will discuss with the provinces and cities to gradually implement it," said Mr. Mai and suggested: "Regarding transportation, HCMC is focusing on promoting the coastal route connecting the East to the Mekong Delta. We also suggest that Tien Giang soon open a ferry route from Go Cong to Can Gio, we already have Can Gio to Vung Tau. If we can connect, we can fully exploit the tourism potential along the coastal route from the East to the West, which can save 2-3 hours compared to the current road route."

The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee assigned the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism to take the lead in promoting and further developing tourism cooperation between Ho Chi Minh City and the provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta. Specifically, how to reshape the tourist routes from Ho Chi Minh City to the localities of the Mekong Delta and fully exploit the vacations of domestic and international visitors.
According to Mr. Mai, the Mekong Delta localities also need to show more clearly the identity of a specific tourist region, not the image of each individual, separate locality. "We can design a tour from Ho Chi Minh City to the Mekong Delta in 1 week or 10 days with typical destinations. With the advantage of travel companies in Ho Chi Minh City and tourism products of the West, I think we can absolutely do it," said Mr. Mai.
The Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee said that in order to effectively connect the regions, the 13 provinces and cities of the Mekong Delta and Ho Chi Minh City need to more clearly confirm the role of Can Tho City as the center and driving force of the Mekong Delta, thereby implementing the plan for more effective intra-regional and inter-regional cooperation agreements.
