On the afternoon of January 26 (December 27), National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man visited and presented 500 Tet gifts in Can Tho.
Specifically: 30 gifts for families with meritorious services to the revolution; 170 gifts for poor households in especially difficult circumstances and 300 gifts for workers and laborers in difficult circumstances.
Here, the National Assembly Chairman said that he was assigned by the Politburo to visit and wish the Party Committee, government and people of the city a happy new year. He also conveyed the regards and best wishes of health from Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh - a National Assembly delegate from Can Tho city.
Due to work conditions, the Prime Minister could not visit, so he sent his regards and New Year wishes to the city leaders, families of martyrs, families of war invalids, families with revolutionary contributions, and workers in the city.
The National Assembly Chairman expressed his joy that last year the city's growth reached 7.12%, average income per capita was about 4,200 USD, budget revenue reached about 12,000 billion VND and exports reached 2.8 billion USD, which is quite high.
In particular, the city's total retail sales of goods reached 133,000 billion VND, while domestic and foreign tourists to Can Tho were about 6.5 million people and the city's poverty rate was 0.09%, lower than the national average.

In addition, the National Assembly Chairman also requested the city to pay attention to implementing Resolution 18 of 2017 on streamlining the apparatus and preventing waste.
"Waste here is not only wasting money but also wasting time, assets, and land. For example, is it a waste to assign a project for 10 years without implementing it? Is it a waste to invest capital in a project for 5 or 10 years but not use it? This must be combated," he said.
Reporting at the Tet gift-giving visit, Mr. Nguyen Thuc Hien, Vice Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee, said that the city currently has about 40,000 policy families, people with revolutionary contributions, and relatives of martyrs, of which nearly 5,000 people with revolutionary contributions and relatives of martyrs receive monthly allowances.
Can Tho has nearly 52,000 social protection beneficiaries, more than 1,300 children in especially difficult circumstances. Regarding labor, the city has about 13,200 enterprises with nearly 620,000 employed workers.
