The longevity celebration and New Year's greetings ceremony for the elderly aged 70 and over took place at the Trung Tien Village Cultural House, Nghi Quang Commune, Nghi Loc District (Nghe An) in a warm and joyful atmosphere on the morning of February 1 (the 4th day of Tet).

Among the elders who came to receive the longevity certificate from the Chairman of Nghe An Provincial People's Committee this year was Mr. Tran Van Coi, who just turned 112 years old, wearing a red shirt, leaning on two canes and walking with his children and grandchildren.

"Mr. Coi is currently the oldest person in the commune. Although he is old and moves slowly, he is still very alert," said Mr. Chu Van Du, chairman of the Elderly Association of Nghi Quang commune.

In the bungalow, surrounded by the fish pond and vegetable garden of the youngest son's family, Mrs. Coi asked her grandson about the visitors. Her face was round, her skin was rosy, her ears were wide, her teeth had fallen out but her eyes were still quite clear.

Mrs. Vo Thi Binh - 54 years old, the youngest daughter-in-law of Mr. Coi - said that Mr. Coi was orphaned at a young age. Mr. Coi and his wife have 8 children.

His wife, three sons and a daughter have passed away. For many years, he has lived with his youngest daughter-in-law and grandson. Up to now, Mr. Coi has a total of 29 grandchildren, 73 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

According to Mrs. Binh, she lives happily with her children and grandchildren and does not require any special food. She likes to eat rice with fish, it must be sweet and salty braised sea fish, she rarely eats meat, soup or vegetables. Even though she has lost all her teeth, she can still chew rice and eats the right meals every day. She also likes to listen to the radio and follow the news.

In 2016, while transporting vegetables to the market, he had an accident and broke his leg, making it difficult for him to walk since then. Although he has to use a cane, Mr. Coi still walks by himself, takes care of his personal hygiene, and rarely bothers his children and grandchildren.

"He was very passionate about working, his children and grandchildren tried to stop him but he insisted on working. He lived a long life with his children and grandchildren, we were very happy and pleased. He was a shining example for his children and grandchildren to appreciate the fruits of labor and stay healthy. We always tried to help him live the happiest life possible," Ms. Binh shared.

The image of Mrs. Coi using a cane to receive a certificate congratulating her on her 112th birthday was shared on social media and received thousands of likes and hearts from the online community. Many people expressed their admiration for her reaching the milestone of "a hundred years of longevity" and prayed for her to live a healthy life.
