On January 22, Master - Specialist Doctor 1 Ngo Van Tan (Ho Chi Minh City University of Medicine and Pharmacy Hospital - Branch 3) said that, taking the medical history, Ms. T. said that she had bought medicine to treat herself but it did not help. She could not walk by herself because of dizziness which led to easy falls, her condition did not improve, greatly affecting her daily work.
At the hospital, after examination, Ms. T. was diagnosed with benign paroxysmal vertigo. The patient was treated with a combination of traditional medicine and non-drug methods such as acupuncture and acupressure massage. After the treatment, Ms. T. no longer had vertigo, nausea and vomiting were reduced, and she could walk and do personal activities on her own. Ms. T. continued to receive outpatient treatment with traditional medicine after being discharged from the hospital until her condition stabilized.
Similarly, a male patient (35 years old, living in Ho Chi Minh City) also came to the clinic with similar symptoms as above. He was diagnosed with benign paroxysmal vertigo by the doctor and prescribed oriental medicine and acupressure massage.
Dr. Tan said that benign paroxysmal vertigo is a common disorder of the vestibular system that occurs when there is a sudden change in the position of the head, such as when raising the head up or down, standing up or sitting up suddenly. The patient feels that he or the surrounding objects are moving, spinning; appearing when changing position or turning the head in bed, bending down or looking up; not accompanied by tinnitus or hearing loss. May be accompanied by nausea, vomiting. Often occurs in middle-aged people, more common in women than men, symptoms can be triggered or worsened by changes in atmospheric pressure, dehydration, lack of sleep, stress...

According to traditional medicine, dizziness is a symptom of vertigo, the cause may be due to the body being exposed to external pathogens or dysfunction of internal organs. Treatment methods will be using traditional medicine and non-drug methods such as acupuncture, massage, and physical exercises to help regulate the function of internal organs and repel external pathogens.
According to Dr. Tan, benign paroxysmal vertigo is not a dangerous disease but it hinders daily activities and reduces the quality of life. More seriously, vertigo can cause falls, especially in the elderly, leading to dangerous injuries.
On the other hand, if dizziness occurs frequently or is accompanied by other symptoms, the patient should go for a medical examination to detect and promptly treat associated diseases.
