From November 16 to 23, the first Red Brick and Ceramic Festival - Green Economy of Vinh Long province in 2024 will take place in Vinh Long province. The festival is also an opportunity to honor the brick and ceramic craft villages in Vinh Long.
Red pottery production in Mang Thit district
According to the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Vinh Long province, the brick making craft village in Vinh Long started in Mang Thit district, formed more than 100 years ago.
During its heyday, the brick village stretched 30 km across Vinh Long city and Long Ho and Mang Thit districts with more than 3,000 operating kilns.
There are currently about 800 brick kilns, covering an area of 3,000 hectares, most of which are concentrated along the Thay Cai canal to the section bordering the Co Chien River (a branch of the Mekong River).
Vinh Long's red ceramic products supply domestic demand and export.
Brick kilns are located along rivers, canals, and streams, convenient for production and transporting goods to many places. During its heyday in the 1980s, this place created jobs for about 12,000 workers. Brick and ceramic products not only met domestic demand but were also exported abroad.
